Photonic reservoir computer with all-optical reservoir

AI and Optical Data Sciences II, 2021
A photonic reservoir computer (RC) leverages optical phenomena to implement multiplication by large pseudo-random matrices used by reservoir computers to perform complex machine learning tasks. Here we show that the equations for propagation around a multimode (MM) ring resonator can be cast exactly in the standard RC form with speckle mixing ...

Computing with Integrated Photonic Reservoirs

2021
The idea of using photonic systems as reservoirs to perform general-purpose computing was first introduced in 2008. Since then, a wide range of systems using either discrete or integrated optical components has been explored. In this chapter, we summarise a decade of research into integrated coherent photonic reservoirs.

Photonic reservoir computing with a silica microsphere cavity

Optics Letters, 2023
We experimentally demonstrate a photonic reservoir computing (RC) system using a passive silica microsphere cavity. The microsphere cavity exhibits a consistent nonlinear response to the non-return-to-zero signal and the multiple-level signal due to strong interference between numerous whispering gallery modes in the “over-coupling” state.

Virtualization of a Photonic Reservoir Computer

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2016
Reservoir computer is an efficient dynamical computing concept that was introduced at the onset of this century for processing time-dependent signals. Several photonic implementations have demonstrated good performances, taking advantage of the components developed for optical telecommunications.

Complicated Dynamics of a Delayed Photonic Reservoir Computing System

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2022
In this paper, we consider the complicated dynamics of a delay-based photonic reservoir computing system. Since conventional computer architectures are approaching their limit, it is imperative to find new, efficient and fast ways of data processing. Photonic reservoir computing (RC) is a promising way which combines the computational capabilities of ...

Multicolor Tunable Photonic Reservoir Computing

2021 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC), 2021
Reservoir computing (RC) is a bioinspired computational paradigm that employs nonlinear dynamical systems (i.e. reservoir) to increase the dimensionality of sequential data [1] . The reservoir is fixed and only the readout is trained with a simple method such as linear regression to map the states of the reservoir to a targeted pattern.

Photonic quantum extreme reservoir computation

Quantum Communications and Quantum Imaging XXII
Quantum extreme reservoir computation is a resource-efficient quantum neural-network model that combines the concepts of extreme machine learning with quantum reservoir computation for classification tasks. We propose a few-photon implementation that achieves remarkably high accuracy.

MReC: A Multilayer Photonic Reservoir Computing Architecture

20th International Symposium on Quality Electronic Design (ISQED), 2019
Photonic reservoir computing is a promising paradigm for large-scale classification and prediction problems. However, its single-layer nature is a bottleneck for higher performance and accuracy. This paper proposes MReC, a novel multi-layer photonic reservoir computing architecture made-up of photonic components such as Mach-Zehnder interferometer and ...

Time-multiplexed photonic reservoir computing

AI and Optical Data Sciences, 2020
Reservoir computing (RC) has reinvigorated neuromorphic computing activities in photonics. RC radically reduces the required complexity for a hardware implementation in photonics as compared to earlier efforts in the nineties. Currently, multiple photonic RC systems show great promise for providing a practical yet powerful hardware substrate for ...
