Photoprotection in teenagers

Photodermatology Photoimmunology and Photomedicine, 2006
Background: It is very common to apply a ‘template photoprotection’ without taking into consideration the background of a specific population. In Lebanon, so far, no preliminary survey has been conducted before launching an educational photoprotection campaign, revealing the need of the people according to their background.Materials and methods: In ...

Daily photoprotection to prevent photoaging [PDF]

open access: yesPhotodermatology Photoimmunology and Photomedicine, 2021
Background: Extrinsic skin aging or photoaging was previously thought to be almost exclusively due to solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation. However, recent literature has described other contributing factors and clarification is thus required as to what ...

Photoprotection

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2005
Many agents affect the transmission of ultraviolet light to human skin. These include naturally occurring photoprotective agents (ozone, pollutants, clouds, and fog), naturally occurring biologic agents (epidermal chromophores), physical photoprotective agents (clothing, hats, make-ups, sunglasses, and window glass), and ultraviolet light filters ...

Photoprotection and vitamin D status

open access: yesJournal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 2010
The adverse effects of solar ultraviolet radiation on the skin are well documented, especially in fair-skinned people. These can be ameliorated by photoprotection strategies advocated by many public health bodies and typically include sun avoidance ...

Photoprotection by Sunscreens

American Journal of Clinical Dermatology, 2001
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is an etiologic factor for the development of nonmelanoma skin cancers and also possibly melanoma. The American Academy of Dermatology currently recommends the daily use of sunscreens with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or above. The SPF numerical rating is an in vivo, standardized measure of sunscreen efficacy.

Nanosystems in Photoprotection

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2015
The ultraviolet (UV) radiation is responsible for stimulating acute responses in the human skin, those including positive responses like vitamin D synthesis along with negative ones such as erythema. The chronic effects of UV radiation include photoaging and cancer.

Photoprotection of phytochrome

Planta, 1988
High-fluence-rate white light is shown to retard the degradation of phytochrome in etiolated seedlings of four different species: Amaranthus caudatus, Phaseolus radiatus (mung bean), Pisum sativum (garden pea), and Avena sativa (oat). In Amaranthus, a high photon fluence rate (approx.

Photoprotection in Adolescence

SKINmed: Dermatology for the Clinician, 2005
Physical changes and the establishment of personal values are characteristics of adolescence. Despite being well informed regarding sun protection and the skin cancer risks related to sun exposure, teenagers usually make little use of sunscreens and remain out in the sun for long periods.

Photoprotection

Seminars in Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, 1999
Protection from solar ultraviolet radiation is discussed. Methods of protection include avoiding outdoor activities during times of greatest ultraviolet radiation insolation, seeking shade while outdoors, and wearing appropriate clothing. Sunscreens are reviewed, including newer compounds that may also offer photoprotection.
