Photorefractive Keratectomy and Cataract

Survey of Ophthalmology, 1997
Fifty male albino rabbits were studied. Ten animals served as controls. Forty animals were prepared to receive photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), including anesthesia, scraping of the corneal epithelial cells, etc. Twenty of these animals then received PRK with energy delivered by excimer laser (pulse rate = 20 Hz, fluence 250 mJ/cm2; number of pulses =

Dark Photorefractive Spatial Solitons and Photorefractive Vortex Solitons

Physical Review Letters, 1995
We report on the first experimental observations of dark, planar, spatial photorefractive solitons, and photorefractive vortex solitons that are trapped in a bulk (three-dimensional) photorefractive media. Both the dark and vortex solitons possess the ``signatures'' of the photorefractive solitons: they are independent of absolute intensity, can afford

Optical and photorefractive properties of InP:Ti: a new photorefractive semiconductor

Optics Letters, 1989
The optical and photorefractive properties of Ti-doped InP are investigated. Four-wave mixing at wavelengths of 1.06 and 1.32 microm has been observed for the first time to our knowledge in semi-insulating InP:Ti. Room-temperature diffraction efficiencies for zero applied bias are larger than efficiencies measured previously for InP:Fe because of the ...

Photorefractive line waves

Optics Letters, 1998
We study self-channeling of light waves in a rotated cut of crystals of the 4mm and the 6mm classes, whose dominant mechanism is photorefractive diffusion nonlinearity. The existence of photorefractive line waves that can be guided along the edge of the crystal is suggested and analyzed.

Photorefractive Keratectomy

International Ophthalmology Clinics, 2000
In this chapter, we have reviewed important aspects of PRK. A thorough understanding of the preoperative assessments, techniques, and postoperative management is essential to achieve satisfactory visual outcomes. Laser safety checks are mandatory. A well-functioning excimer laser with good optics is required.

Annihilation of photorefractive solitons

Optics Letters, 1998
We investigate experimentally the interaction of two-dimensional solitary beams in photorefractive strontium barium niobate crystal. We show that simultaneous collision of many solitons can result in complete annihilation of some of them. This effect depends on the relative phases of the solitons and may be useful for application in the formation of ...
