Photosensitization by Drugs

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1977
UV irradiation (365 nm) of air-saturated methanol solutions of 20 drugs absorbing in the 300--400 nm region gave rise to oxygen uptake, as determined with a polarographic oxygen electrode. The drugs were tested for photosensitizing capability by either a Type I (free radical) or a Type II (single molecular oxygen) mechanism.

Inheritance of Photosensitivity

Neuropediatrics, 2000
To investigate the mode of inheritance of the photoparoxysmal response (PPR) and to obtain more information about the influence of photosensitivity on the seizure risk in siblings of patients with epilepsy.Examination of the records of families with one photosensitive parent (Group I, n = 54) and of families with a photosensitive proband, neither of ...

PHOTOSENSITIZATION WITH BACTERIOCHLORINS

Photochemistry and Photobiology, 1993
Abstract— Biophysical and photobiological properties of a group of bacteriochlorins were compared with efficacy of these products for photodynamic therapy of murine tumors. Predictive factors for selective photosensitization in vivo include affinity binding to lipoproteins greater than albumin, extinction coefficient at the wavelength of irradiation ...

Study on the photosensitivity of photosensitive fibers

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
The photosensitivity of photosensitive fibers is studied experimentally and theoretically. In the experiment, the relationship between the diffractive index increment of photosensitive fibers and UV irradiating dose based on an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) is measured.

Photosensitive gelatin

Chemical Communications, 2006
Employing photodestructible surfactants in gelatin-based aqueous gels presents novel possibilities for controlling colloidal and aggregation properties of surfactant gelatin complexes. Light-triggered breakdown of the gelatin-bound photosurfactant aggregates causes dramatic changes in viscosity and aggregation.

Mycotoxin Photosensitivity

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1973
SUMMARY Facial eczema is a mycotoxic photosensitivity that occurs in sheep and cattle in New Zealand. The mycotoxin, sporodesmin, is produced by the fungus, Pithomyces chartarum, which is a saprophyte of certain pasture grasses. Sporodesmin is hepatotoxic and the photosensitivity is secondary, resulting from a failure, of the damaged liver to remove ...

Photosensitizers in Soaps

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1966
To the Editor:— Dr. Stephan Epstein's contribution, "Photoallergic Contact Dermatitis" ( 194 :1016, 1965) establishes the photosensitizing properties of Lifebuoy soap. A similar study has been conducted in the Louisville, Ky, area, with different conclusions regarding the photosensitizing agent in the soap. There are three different Lifebuoys: white,
