New Approach to Inactivation of Harmful and Pathogenic Microorganisms by Photosensitization

open access: yesFood Technology and Biotechnology, 2005
Photosensitization is a treatment involving the administration of a photoactive compound that selectively accumulates in the target cells or microorganisms and is followed by irradiation with visible light.

A POLIANILINA NO CENÁRIO AMBIENTAL: UMA ABORGAGEM SOBRE FOTOCATÁLISE HETEROGÊNEA

open access: yesQuímica Nova
Polyaniline is a conducting polymer that has recently been studied regarding its potential in the removal of contaminants by heterogeneous photocatalysis. Since it is a polymer with a high absorption capacity of photons in the visible region, it promotes

Modulating the Charge Transfer Channels via Constructing Charge‐Assisted Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Frameworks for Enhanced Photosynthesis of Hydrogen Peroxide

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work reports a strategy of engineering charge‐assisted hydrogen bonds to tailor charge transfer channels in HOFs, significantly improving their performance in photocatalytic H2O2 production. ABSTRACT The production of H2O2 via artificial photosynthesis is often limited by inefficient charge‐carrier separation, causing significant charge ...

Photodynamic Priming and Minocycline Overcome Chemoresistance by Reprogramming the Pancreatic Tumor Immune Microenvironment In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dual priming with minocycline and photodynamic priming reprograms the pancreatic tumor microenvironment to overcome chemoresistance. By suppressing DNA repair enzyme Tdp1, inducing photooxidative damage, and enhancing irinotecan delivery via light‐activated nanoencapsulation, this strategy remodels the tumor microenvironment and drives immune ...

Using Colistin as a Trojan Horse: Inactivation of Gram-Negative Bacteria with Chlorophyllin

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2019
Colistin (polymyxin E) is a membrane-destabilizing antibiotic used against Gram-negative bacteria. We have recently reported that the outer membrane prevents the uptake of antibacterial chlorophyllin into Gram-negative cells.

Tyrosinase Driven‐Intracellular Polymerization of a Porphyrin Derivative Induced Immunogenic Death of Melanoma Cells and Strengthened Photodynamic Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uses tyrosinase, which is highly expressed in melanoma, to drive porphyrins to polymerize and self‐assemble within tumor cells to form retented microstructures. This process induces immunogenic death and activates immune responses (M1 macrophages, dendritic cells, CD8+T cells), turning “cold” tumors into “hot” tumors.

Gold-Sensitized Silicon/ZnO Core/Shell Nanowire Array for Solar Water Splitting

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2019
Solar water splitting represents one of the most promising strategies in the quest for clean and renewable energy. However, low conversion efficiency, use of sacrificial agents, and external bias for current water splitting system limit its practical ...
