Photosynthetic efficiency

Radiation and Environmental Biophysics, 1986
The efficiency of photosynthesis is discussed in analogy to the solar cell. The total efficiency eta can be written as a product of factors eta i concerning different loss processes. The fraction of photon energy hv which is available for photosynthesis in the membrane, usually called the thermodynamic efficiency eta th, is calculated.

Tree Breeding for Photosynthetic Efficiency

South African Forestry Journal, 1976
ABSTRACT Some recent results obtained in studying the genetic variability of photosynthetic rates in forest trees and its implications in breeding trees with better growth performance are discussed. Results are still scanty and difficult to interpret but point out to genetically based differences in photosynthesis in forest trees.

Approaches for Increasing Photosynthetic Efficiency

1977
This paper is one of several to discuss an important yet obvious point that photosynthesis is the ultimate source of energy for nitrogen fixation and nitrate reduction, and if net photosynthetic efficiency could be increased net nitrogen utilization should also be increased and/or prolonged. This will be true for nitrogen utilization directly linked to

An Evaluation of the Photosynthetic Efficiency of Forests

The Quarterly Review of Biology, 1964
Data available on the photosynthetic efficiency of forest trees are reviewed. Results from the different sources suggest that over a growing season a stand of trees has a relatively high photosynthetic efficiency in comparison to that of an agricultural crop.

Environmental influence on photosynthetic efficiency

Advances in Space Research, 1987
Abstract Photosynthesis is arguably the single most important metabolic process on earth. Through a series of reactions, ranging from 10 −15 sec for absorption of light to 10 6 sec for primary productivity of a field crop, atmospheric CO 2 is assimilated into carbohydrate necessary for the sustenance of all life forms.

Light utilization efficiency in photosynthetic microbial mats

Environmental Microbiology, 2011
Summary Based on combined microsensor measurements of irradiance, temperature and O 2 , we compared light energy budgets in photosynthetic microbial mats, with a special focus on the efficiency of light energy conservation by photosynthesis.

Photosynthetic efficiency of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii in flashing light

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 2011
AbstractEfficient light to biomass conversion in photobioreactors is crucial for economically feasible microalgae production processes. It has been suggested that photosynthesis is enhanced in short light path photobioreactors by mixing‐induced flashing light regimes.

OsV14 interacts with OsPetC to affect photosynthetic efficiency

Plant Physiology and Biochemistry
mTERFs in plants have been implicated in regulating many physiological processes. However, the molecular mechanisms underpinning these critical physiological functions are yet to be fully elucidated. In this study, we isolated the albino leaf mutant al11 from an EMS-mutagenized library generated from the seeds of the indica cultivar RH2B.

Quantum Efficiency of Cytochrome Oxidation in a Photosynthetic Bacterium

Science, 1962
Illumination of Chromatium with light absorbed by bacteriochlorophyll causes the oxidation of intracellular cytochrome. The quantum efficiency of this reaction approaches one electron per photon at 589 millimicrons and at wavelengths between 862 and 908 millimicrons. The efficiency of converting excitation energy to
