Variation in photosynthetic induction between super hybrid rice and inbred super rice

Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2022
It is well documented that yield superiority of super hybrid rice is linked with its improved photosynthetic capacity and/or efficiency. In natural environments, the amounts of CO2 assimilated by plants was also impacted by the rapidity of leaf photosynthesis response to fluctuations of light.

In vivo regulation of proton motive force during photosynthetic induction

Environmental and Experimental Botany, 2018
Abstract Thylakoid proton motive force (pmf) plays a central role in photosynthesis. However, the regulation of pmf during photosynthetic induction is not well known. In the present study, in order to investigate the importance of cyclic electron flow (CEF) and chloroplastic ATP synthase in pmf formation during photosynthetic induction, we examined ...

Sink–source imbalance triggers delayed photosynthetic induction: Transcriptomic and physiological evidence

Physiologia Plantarum, 2023
AbstractSink–source imbalance causes accumulation of nonstructural carbohydrates (NSCs) and photosynthetic downregulation. However, despite numerous studies, it remains unclear whether NSC accumulation or N deficiency more directly decreases steady‐state maximum photosynthesis and photosynthetic induction, as well as underlying gene expression profiles.

Fluorescence studies of the photosynthetic induction period

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Specialized Section on Biophysical Subjects, 1964
Abstract The fluorescence intensity of green leaves at the beginning of an irradiation period is lower than at the subsequent steady state of illumination. This is interpreted in terms of the adsorption in the dark of plant metabolites at an active chlorophyll surface and of their photochemical reduction in the first few seconds of strong irradiation.

PHOTOSYNTHETIC INDUCTION IN MARINE ALGAE

Canadian Journal of Botany, 1956
Effects of dark time and of oxygen supply upon photosynthetic induction in Ulva were investigated polarographically and manometrically. Under continuously aerobic conditions, the induction period was of about two minutes' duration following one day in darkness in flowing sea water; beyond 10 min., length of the aerobic dark period had little effect ...

Factors affecting photosynthetic induction in spinach leaves

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1986
Abstract Induction of photosynthetic carbon assimilation in spinach leaves in saturating CO2 has been studied in relation to such factors as the length of the preceding dark period, intensity of pre-illumination, irradiance and the phosphate status of the leaf, through measurements of O2 evolution and of changes in leaf metabolites. (i) In low light,
