Inhibitors in the functional dissection of the photosynthetic electron transport system

Photosynthesis Research, 2007
The significance of inhibitors and artificial electron acceptor and donor systems as experimental tools for studying the photosynthetic system is described by reviewing early classical articles. The historical development in unravelling the role and sequence of electron carriers and energy conserving sites in the electron transport chain is ...

Possible mode of action of a photosynthetic inhibitor produced byPandorina morum

Archives of Microbiology, 1974
The mode of action of the photosynthetic inhibitor produced byPandorina morum was examined by exposingVolvox globator and isolated spinach chloroplasts to a partially purified inhibitor preparation. Oxygen evolution ofVolvox, whole chloroplasts, and broken chloroplasts (-Calvin cycle) was reduced indicating that the substances inhibit the light ...

Halogenated 1,4-benzoquinones as irreversibly binding inhibitors of photosynthetic electron transport

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1987
Abstract Halogenated 1,4-benzoquinones are effective inhibitors of photosynthetic electron transport through Photosystem II and the cytochrome b 6 f- complex as well. Due to their properties as vinylogous acid halides they can react with nucleophilic groups of soluble molecules or membrane-bound proteins under formation of a covalent ...

Photosynthetic Inhibitors From Capsicum annuum L.: Extraction and Bioassay

Australian Journal of Plant Physiology, 1980
Photosynthesis of leaf slices from Capsicum annuum L. was inhibited by specific fractions from high-performance liquid chromatographic separations of extracts from those same plants. Two regions were apparent-a rapidly eluting discrete zone of high potency and a second more diffuse zone of lower activity which would have included phaseic acid ...

Sites of action of photosynthetic inhibitor herbicides; Experiments with trypsinated chloroplasts

Pesticide Science, 1979
AbstractThe effect of four photosynthetic inhibitor herbicides, bromacil, ioxynil, metribuzin and monuron, on chloroplast electron transport was investigated. All four compounds completely inhibited electron flow with tripotassium hexacyanoferrate as oxidant, but the inhibition caused by bromacil, metribuzin and monuron was almost totally reversed by ...

Influence of photosynthetic inhibitors on peach

2020
Several photosynthetic inhibitors were screened for relative photosynthetic reduction on leaves of greenhouse-grown peach trees. The most effective were 8% Vapor Gard, 10M diurcn, 10⁻³M ABA, and 10⁻³M terbacil, all of which reduced net photosynthesis (Pn) rates by 50% or more by 1 day after treatment without causing excessive phytotoxicity.

Nature of the Receptor Site for Photosynthetic Electron Transport Inhibitors

1984
Recently, a new group of Hill inhibitor herbicides, the 3-methylphenylamino2-cyanoacrylic acid esters (I, R1 = phenyl; R2 = methyl; R3 = alkyl) have been reported (Huppatz et al. 1981). Further studies have show that Hill inhibitory activity, as measured by pI50 values using pea chloroplast suspensions (Brown et al.

Activators and inhibitors of photosynthetic enzymes from Rumex dentatus cotyledons

Journal of Plant Physiology, 2001
Summary The activities of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase (EC, 4.1.1.39), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (EC, 4.1.1.31), NADP-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (EC, 1.1.1.8), pyruvate orthophosphate dikinase (EC, 2.7.9.1), and NADP-malate dehydrogenase (EC, 1.1.1.82) were measured in the cotyledons of Rumex dentatus .

Antagonistic effect of photosynthetic electron transport inhibitors on peroxidizing phytotoxic activity

Pesticide Science, 1999
It is shown that a number of new 2-benzylamino-1,3,5-triazines have a similar antagonistic effect to diuron on the phytotoxic activity of peroxidizing herbicides.

Effects of temperature and photosynthetic inhibitors on light activation of C4-phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase

Photosynthesis Research, 1988
Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase from leaves of the C4 plant Setaria verticillata (L.) Beauv. is activated by light; day levels of activity are reached after 30 minutes of illumination. Photoactivation is prevented by inhibitors of photosynthetic electron flow or of photophosphorylation and by D,L-glyceraldehyde, which inhibits the reductive pentose ...
