The present study demonstrated that exogenously-sourced nitric oxide (as SNP, sodium nitroprusside; NO donor) and sulfur (S) protected photosynthesis against chromium (Cr) stress in wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. HD 2851).

Formate as an Inhibitor of Photosynthetic Electron Flow
The effects of formate on the Hill reaction in isolated broken pea chloroplasts were investigated. Addition of formate to chloroplasts has two distinct effects: I. basal electron flow can be stimulated 3-fold; 2. uncoupled electron flow is inhibited. The stimulating effect is due to uncoupling by formate and appears instantaneous.

The Ability of Cyanobacterial Cells to Restore UV-B Radiation Induced Damage to Photosystem II is Influenced by Photolyase Dependent DNA Repair [PDF]
Damage of DNA and Photosystem-II are among the most significant effects of UV-B irradiation in photosynthetic organisms. Both damaged DNA and Photosystem-II can be repaired, which represent important defense mechanisms against detrimental UV-B effects ...

Growth, photosynthetic pigments, phenolic content and biological activities of Foeniculum vulgare Mill., Anethum graveolens L. and Pimpinella anisum L. (Apiaceae) in response to zinc [PDF]
The effect of zinc (Zn) on phenols, antioxidant activities (free radicals' scavenging activities, inhibition of lipid peroxidation, chelating activity and reducing power), and enzyme inhibition activities of acetylcholinesterase, lipoxygenase and ...

Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase Is Involved in the Decarboxylation of Aspartate in the Bundle Sheath of Maize [PDF]
We recently showed that maize (Zea mays L.) leaves contain appreciable amounts of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK; R.P. Walker, R.M. Acheson, L.I. Técsi, R.C. Leegood [1997] Aust J Plant Physiol 24: 459–468).

The present study examined the alleviatory role of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in UV-B challenged nitrogen fixing cyanobacteria and the significant role of nitric oxide (NO) as a downstream signal in GABA-mediated responses.

Picrate as an Inhibitor of Photosystem II in Photosynthetic Electron Transport [PDF]
2,4,6‐Trinitrophenol (picric acid) is an effective inhibitor of photosynthetic electron transport (pI50 value 6.82). By means of artificial donor and acceptor systems its site of inhibition was located at the reducing side of photo‐system II. In addition, picric acid also uncouples photophosphorylation but a much higher concentration is required than ...

Crystallographic studies of the Escherichia coli quinol-fumarate reductase with inhibitors bound to the quinol-binding site [PDF]
The quinol-fumarate reductase (QFR) respiratory complex of Escherichia coli is a four-subunit integral-membrane complex that catalyzes the final step of anaerobic respiration when fumarate is the terminal electron acceptor.
