Selective materials for solar energy photothermal conversion

Journal of Optics, 1984
The interest in selective surfaces for the photothermal conversion of solar energy is demonstrated. The various physical phenomena which lead to the spectral selectivity are briefly investigated. The different criteria which may be considered at the time of choosing a selective surface are described.

Photothermal Energy Conversion in Liquid Nanoparticle Suspensions

ASME 2010 8th International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels: Parts A and B, 2010
Liquid nanoparticle suspensions, popularly termed “nanofluids,” have been the subject of numerous investigations because of their interesting thermal transport properties. Their propensity to scatter and absorb electromagnetic radiation enables other applications that can take advantage of both their radiative and thermal transport properties.

Graphene Microflower by Photothermal Marangoni-Induced Fluid Instability for Omnidirectional Broadband Photothermal Conversion

ACS Nano
2-D carbon-based materials are well-known for their broadband absorption properties for efficient solar energy conversion. However, their high reflectivity poses a challenge for achieving efficient omnidirectional light absorption. Inspired by the multilevel structures of the flower, a Graphene Microflower (GM) material with gradient refractive index ...

Disordered Cermets in Photothermal Solar Energy Conversion

1985
Thin films composed of two phases vary widely in their optical properties according to their microstructural features. Such variations can be used to optimize their performance as photothermal solar energy converters. Application of the theory of the optical properties of two-phase materials to the systematic design of such films has been difficult ...
