Adaptive Beam Shaping using Photothermal Effects

Frontiers in Optics 2009/Laser Science XXV/Fall 2009 OSA Optics & Photonics Technical Digest, 2009
We present an experimental demonstration of adaptive beam shaping via heat induced photothermal effects in optical elements. One application of the proposed system is for correction of astigmatic thermal aberrations in high power laser systems.

Enhanced Photothermal Effect in Si Nanowires

Nano Letters, 2003
Si nanowires synthesized by the thermal evaporation of a silicon monoxide powder or a mixture of silicon and silica powders burned fiercely in air and exhibited a large photoacoustic effect when exposed to a conventional photographic flash. The energy required to ignite the Si nanowires was 0.1−0.2 J/cm2. Si nanowires showed a strong ability to confine

Promoting Oxygen Evolution Reaction of Co-Based Catalysts (Co3 O4 , CoS, CoP, and CoN) through Photothermal Effect.

Small, 2019
The increase of reaction temperature of electrocatalysts is regarded as an efficient method to improve the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity. Herein, it is reported that the electrocatalytic performance of dual functional (i.e., electrocatalytic ...

Nanowelding through plasmonic enhanced photothermal effects

2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2015
Single point nanowelding (SPNW) of nanowires is highly demanded for functional electronics and photonics devices while it is difficult to be realized due to small footprints of nanowires and controlling the localized heat generation. Here we review our recent work on the precise control of SPNW of silver nanowires, where the nanowelding is induced ...

Review of Some Photothermal Effects

1996
When a laser beam passes through a lossy material, the absorbed energy produces thrmal gradients, which in turn produce gradients of refractive index. There may then occur a variety of effects including focusing or defocusing (thermal lense effects), beam distortion, self-phase modulation, or generation of acoustic waves.

Plasmonic Nanohybrid with High Photothermal Conversion Efficiency for Simultaneously Effective Antibacterial/Anticancer Photothermal Therapy

ACS Applied Bio Materials, 2019
Plasmonic metal/semiconductor nanohybrids hold great promise in photocatalysis and biosensor development; however, their potential phototherapeutic applications are yet fully unexplored. On the other hand, the demand of high laser power density to induce antibacterial photothermal therapeutic effects greatly restricts the practical applicability of the
