Comparative Investigation of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Photovoltaic/Thermal (PV/T) Systems by both Laboratory and Field Experiments

2015
Photovoltaic (PV) semiconductor degrades in performance due to temperature rise. Therefore, a super thin-conductive thermal absorber was developed to retrofit the existing PV panel into a photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) panel with multiple benefits including dual outputs of increased electricity and additional hot water, and potential savings in ...

Evaluating the limits of solar photovoltaics (PV) in traditional electric power systems

Energy Policy, 2007
Abstract In this work, we examine some of the limits to large-scale deployment of solar photovoltaics (PV) in traditional electric power systems. Specifically, we evaluate the ability of PV to provide a large fraction (up to 50%) of a utility system's energy by comparing hourly output of a simulated large PV system to the amount of electricity ...

Comparative Study on Exergy Efficiency of Solar Photovoltaic/Thermal (PV/T) System

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
A brief comparative study is presented regarding different exergy efficiency correlations of solar photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) system that have been proposed in the literature. Performance evaluation results of a certain PV/T hybrid system are found to be inconsistent with each other when using different correlations of exergy efficiency.

Solar energy for zero energy buildings – a comparison between solar thermal, PV and photovoltaic-thermal (PV/T) systems

2015
In a net zero energy building, the energy needed to operate the building is met by renewable energy generated on site. Buildings require energy both in the form of heat and electricity, and hybrid photovoltaic-thermal (PV/T) modules are therefore an interesting technology for building applications. This paper describes a comparative simulation study of

Solar photovoltaic (PV) energy; latest developments in the building integrated and hybrid PV systems

Renewable Energy, 2006
Environmental concerns are growing and interest in environmental issues is increasing and the idea of generating electricity with less pollution is becoming more and more attractive. Unlike conventional generation systems, fuel of the solar photovoltaic energy is available at no cost. And solar photovoltaic energy systems generate electricity pollution-

Implementation of wireless remote monitoring and control of solar photovoltaic (PV) system

2012 Sixth IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution: Latin America Conference and Exposition (T&D-LA), 2012
This paper describes the implementation of a wireless remote monitoring and control system of a solar photovoltaic distributed generator (PV-DG) for microgrids applications. To this aim, a small-scale PV-DG system is implemented using a 1.28 kWp assembly of PV polycrystalline modules connected to a single-phase utility grid through a commercial ...

Dynamic Characteristics Analysis of Hybrid Photovoltaic/Thermal (PV/T) Solar Energy System

Volume 6: Emerging Technologies: Alternative Energy Systems; Energy Systems: Analysis, Thermodynamics and Sustainability, 2009
A dynamic model is developed to analysis the transient characteristics of hybrid photovoltaic/thermal solar energy system. Two typical climatic conditions, clear day and hazy day, are considered in the present study. The daily and annual variation of hot water temperature, electrical output, thermal efficiency and electrical efficiency are calculated ...
