“Sweeter than a rose”, at least to Triatoma phyllosoma complex males (Triatominae: Reduviidae) [PDF]

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2018
Background The Triatoma phyllosoma complex of Trypanosoma cruzi vectors (Triatominae: Reduviidae) is distributed in both Neotropical and Nearctic bioregions of Mexico. Methods Volatile organic compounds emitted by disturbed Triatoma longipennis, Triatoma

Trends in taxonomy of Triatomini (Hemiptera, Reduviidae, Triatominae): reproductive compatibility reinforces the synonymization of Meccus Stål, 1859 with Triatoma Laporte, 1832 [PDF]

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2021
Background Meccus' taxonomy has been quite complex since the first species of this genus was described by Burmeister in 1835 as Conorhinus phyllosoma. In 1859 the species was transferred to the genus Meccus and in 1930 to Triatoma.

Phylogeography and cohesion species delimitation of California endemic trapdoor spiders within the Aptostichus icenoglei sibling species complex (Araneae: Mygalomorphae: Euctenizidae). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2023
Species delimitation in spiders has traditionally used morphological characters; however, certain mygalomorph spiders are heavily inclined toward morphological homogeneity despite long periods of population‐level isolation and consequent high degrees of molecular divergence.

Disentangling genetic from environmental effects on phenotypic variability of southern rock lobster (Jasus edwardsii) postlarvae. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2022
We found that Jasus edwardsii settlers exhibit phenotypic variability across a geographical and temporal gradient; however, this is not correlated with genetic divergence. Given the protracted pelagic larval duration of the species, we hypothesize that dispersal history drives phenotypic variability in this species.

Can metamorphosis survival during larval development in spiny lobster Sagmariasus verreauxi be improved through quantitative genetic inheritance? [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Genetics, 2018
Background One of the major impediments to spiny lobster aquaculture is the high cost of hatchery production due to the long and complex larval cycle and poor survival during the many moult stages, especially at metamorphosis.

High Gene Flow With Patterns of Asymmetric Connectivity and Adaptive Divergence in the New Zealand Southern Rock Lobster, Jasus edwardsii (Hutton, 1875). [PDF]

open access: yesEvol Appl
ABSTRACT Understanding patterns of connectivity and adaptive divergence is crucial for supporting conservation and sustainable management of harvested species. This study utilised single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to investigate spatially explicit patterns of genetic structure, gene flow and adaptive divergence in the commercially important ...

Phylogeny and niche conservatism in North and Central American triatomine bugs (Hemiptera: Reduviidae: Triatominae), vectors of Chagas' disease. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2014
The niche conservatism hypothesis states that related species diverge in niche characteristics at lower rates than expected, given their lineage divergence.

Diversification of cephalic shield shape and antenna in phyllosoma I of slipper and spiny lobsters (Decapoda: Achelata)

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
Slipper (Scyllaridae) and spiny (Palinuridae) lobsters show a complex life cycle with a planktonic larval phase, named phyllosoma. This unique larval form within Achelata (Decapoda) is characterized by a transparent dorsoventrally compressed body and a ...

Triatoma bassolsae sp. n. from Mexico with a key to species of "phyllosoma" complex [PDF]

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1999
According to the descriptions of five closely related species of the genus Triatoma Laporte, 1832: T. phyllosoma (Burmeister, 1835), T. pallidipennis (Stal, 1872), T. picturata Usinger, 1939, T. longipennis Usinger, 1939 and T.

Metabarcoding analysis of marine zooplankton confirms the ecological role of a sheltered bight along an exposed continental shelf

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 32, Issue 23, Page 6210-6222, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Zooplankton plays an essential role in marine ecosystems as the link between primary producers (phytoplankton) and higher trophic levels in food webs, and as a dynamic pool of recruits for invertebrates and fish. Zooplankton communities are diverse with a patchy distribution at different spatial scales, influenced by oceanographic processes ...
