Distinctive leaf feeding patterns on oilseed rapes and related Brassicaceae by flea beetles, Phyllotreta cruciferae (Goeze) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)

open access: yes, 1992
Two distinctive leaf feeding patterns, termed "edge" and "random", by flea beetles, Phyllotreta cruciferae (Goeze) were identified in 38 Brassicaceae belonging to nine groups of known genomic composition. Edge feeding occurred in the monogenomic diploid

Phyllotreta striolata flea beetles utilize host plant defense compounds to create their own glucosinolate-myrosinase system

open access: yes, 2014
The ability of a specialized herbivore to overcome the chemical defense of a particular plant taxon not only makes it accessible as a food source but may also provide metabolites to be exploited for communication or chemical defense.
