A Phylogenetic Analysis of Aquifex pyrophilus

Systematic and Applied Microbiology, 1992
The 16S rRNA of the bacterion Aquifex pyrophilus, a microaerophilic, oxygen-reducing hyperthermophile, has been sequenced directly from the the PCR amplified gene. Phylogenetic analyses show the Aq. pyrophilus lineage to be probably the deepest (earliest) in the (eu)bacterial tree.

Phylogenetic analysis ofUlmaceae

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 1996
A phylogenetic analysis of theUlmaceae, Cannabaceae, Barbeyaceae, andBroussonetia of theMoraceae produced nine equally parsimonious trees with 127 steps. TheUlmoideae (Ulmaceae, sensuGrudzinskaya) are a monophyletic group and distinct from theCeltidoideae. The genusAmpelocera occupies an isolated taxonomic position among the celtidoids.

The marsupial placenta: A phylogenetic analysis

Journal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Comparative Experimental Biology, 2003
AbstractThe structure, physiology, and endocrinology of the yolk sac placenta of different marsupial groups is compared and phylogenetically analyzed to provide information on placental characters in the marsupial stem species. We conclude that the marsupial stem species possessed a functional yolk sac placenta.

Phylogenetic analysis of twinning in Callitrichinae

American Journal of Primatology, 2000
The callitrichines are known for twinning and for a communal rearing system in which all or most group members help care for the offspring. The origin of twinning has been the subject of much speculation. In this study predictions from earlier hypotheses are tested on the basis of two alternative phylogenetic trees.

Combining data in phylogenetic analysis

Trends in Ecology & Evolution, 1996
Systematists have access to multiple sources of character information in phylogenetic analysis. For example, it is not unusual to have nucleotide sequences from several different genes, or to have molecular and morphological data. How should diverse data be analyzed in phylogenetic analysis?

Phylogenetic analysis of anthropoid relationships

Journal of Human Evolution, 1998
The relationships of anthropoids to other primates are currently debated, as are the relationships among early fossil anthropoids and crown anthropoids. To resolve these issues, data on 291 morphological characters were collected for 57 taxa of living and fossil primates and analyzed using PAUP and MacClade.

Phylogenetic Analysis of Pathogens

2011
Publisher Summary This chapter introduces the important facets of the topic of producing phylogenetic trees, and the direct relevance to the study of infectious organisms' transmission. It is clearly important to be able to reconstruct the phylogeny, both for a group of species and also for the individuals within those species.

Phylogenetic Analysis

2014
The chapter briefly discusses the principles of phylogenetic analysis. The phylogenetic tree and its various parts are explained. The steps involved in the construction of a phylogenetic tree are briefly reviewed. Some online tools are mentioned that users can employ to reconstruct the phylogenetic tree of their desired set of sequences.

Phylogenetic Analysis of Geminiviruses

Members of the family Geminiviridae have single-stranded (ss), circular DNA genomes that are encapsidated into non-enveloped quasi-icosahedral twinned (geminate) particles, causing yield losses in several economically important crops worldwide. Sequence-based approaches used for molecular characterization of Geminiviridae genomes, associated with ...

Phylogenetic Analysis of Poliovirus Sequences

2016
Comparative genomic sequencing is a major surveillance tool in the Polio Laboratory Network. Due to the rapid evolution of polioviruses (~1 % per year), pathways of virus transmission can be reconstructed from the pathways of genomic evolution. Here, we describe three main phylogenetic methods; estimation of genetic distances, reconstruction of a ...
