The Swedish Arctic Fox Project: 40 years of research in ecology and conservation
The 4 central research themes in The Swedish Arctic Fox Project and key deliverables for practical conservation achieved over 4 decades. Abstract The scientific community widely recognizes the value of long‐term studies, especially those with individual‐level resolution; however, maintaining a consecutive data series is associated with multiple ...

Species-Specific TT Viruses in Humans and Nonhuman Primates and Their Phylogenetic Relatedness
By means of polymerase chain reaction with a primer pair (NG133-NG147) deduced from the untranslated region (UTR) of TT virus (TTV), TTVs with markedly distinct genomic lengths were recovered from sera of humans and nonhuman primates, and their entire nucleotide sequences were determined.

Seasonality, an exogenous driver, motivates the biological and ecological temporal dynamics of animal and plant communities. Underexplored microbial temporal endogenous dynamics hinders the prediction of microbial response to climate change. To elucidate

Biodiversity is known to influence the performance of coexisting species and has been proposed as a management tool to enhance the resilience and functioning of plant communities under drought. However, experimental studies to disentangle the roles of phylogenetic and functional diversity as drivers of plant performance remain extremely scarce.

Does relatedness matter? Phylogenetic density‐dependent survival of seedlings in a tropical forest [PDF]
A complex set of interactions among neighbors influences plant performance and community structure. Understanding their joint operation requires extensive information on species characteristics and individual performance. We evaluated first‐year survival of 35 719 tropical forest seedlings of 222 species and 15 annual cohorts relative to the density of

To understand the structuring of species assemblages, integrating life‐history traits and evolutionary heritage in analyses is vital. This allows the assessment of a mechanistic link between species and their environment. Deadwood systems are vital for nutrient cycling and biodiversity support, governed by complex intra‐ and inter‐specific fungal and ...

An effective, low-cost measure of semantic relatedness obtained from Wikipedia links [PDF]
This paper describes a new technique for obtaining measures of semantic relatedness. Like other recent approaches, it uses Wikipedia to provide structured world knowledge about the terms of interest.

Dispersal‐limited birds at high risk from cattle farming deforestation in tropical forests
Deforestation driven by farming is a major threat to tropical biodiversity. Although this impact is well documented, assessments at local or regional scales often underestimate biodiversity loss at broader national scales by up to 60%. A key question remains: how do farming activities affect functional diversity and species traits across different ...
