Assessing multigenerational effects of prednisolone to the freshwater snail, Physa acuta (Gastropoda: Physidae)

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2017
Prednisolone (PDS), a potent synthetic glucocorticoid is widely prescribed for its exceptional anti-inflammatory properties. Several studies have detected the environmental presence of PDS in water bodies which has led to an ecological concern for its toxicity to non-target aquatic biota. The present study investigated the effects of exposure to PDS on

Effects of different ionic compositions on survival and growth of Physa acuta

Aquatic Ecology, 2007
Most inland saline waters in southern Australia predominantly contain Na+ and Cl− as major ions. The proportions of Ca2+, Mg2+, SO4 2−, HCO3 − and CO3 2− in these waters somewhat vary and might influence salinity tolerance of freshwater organisms.

Populations of the European freshwater pulmonate Physa acuta are not reproductively isolated from American Physa heterostropha or Physa integra

Invertebrate Biology, 2002
Abstract. It has long been speculated that Physa acuta, a pulmonate snail widespread and invasive in fresh waters of the old world, may have originated in North America. But the identification of a new‐world cognate has been complicated by the confused systematics and taxonomy of the Physidae in America.

Expansion of an invasive freshwater snail Physa acuta (Gastropoda: Physidae) in China

Molluscan Research, 2009
The pulmonate freshwater snail Physa acuta Draparnaud, 1805 has been previously reported as an invasive species in China and many other parts of the world. Populations in Beijing and Shandong, Shanxi, Yunnan and Hubei Provinces are reported for the first time based on collections made between August and October 2007. The potential for further spread of

NO REPRODUCTIVE ISOLATION BETWEEN FRESHWATER PULMONATE SNAILS PHYSA VIRGATA AND P. ACUTA

The Southwestern Naturalist, 2005
Abstract Mate choice tests provided no evidence of prezygotic reproductive isolation between a population of Physa virgata (Gould, 1855) collected from its type locality in the Gila River of Arizona and Physa acuta (Draparnaud, 1805) from a control site in Charleston, South Carolina.

Some biological effects of Bayluscide on Physa acuta and Helisoma duryi.

Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology, 1992
The fecundity, viability and the size of egg-masses were studied in Physa acuta and Helisoma duryi snails treated with 1 ppm Bayluscide for two hours. Bayluscide application caused significant and highly significant reduction in the fecundity of both Physa acuta and Helisoma duryi.
