Body size–dependent gender role in a simultaneous hermaphrodite freshwater snail, Physa acuta [PDF]

open access: yesBehavioral Ecology, 2004
We examined whether gender role in the simultaneous hermaphrodite freshwater snail, Physa acuta, is determined by relative body size in a manner predicted by the size-advantage model. We observed the body-size combinations of pairs in the laboratory by using field-collected populations. Smaller individuals tended to play the ‘‘male’’ role (sperm donor),

Environmental DNA Particle Size Distribution and Quantity Differ Across Taxa and Organelles

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 6, Issue 5, September–October 2024.
ABSTRACT The use of environmental DNA to detect species is now widespread in freshwater ecology. However, the detectability of species depends on many factors, such as the quantity of eDNA particles available in the environment and their state (e.g., free DNA fragments, organellar, or aggregated DNA particles).

Food web structures of irrigated rice fields estimated from carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes: Special reference to the role of filamentous green algae as a food resource of aquatic consumers

open access: yesEcological Research, Volume 39, Issue 3, Page 318-329, May 2024.
We examined aquatic food web structures in two adjacent rice fields in northeastern Japan using carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios. δ13C‐based isotopic mixing model estimated that the majority of herbivores and omnivores, as well as several carnivorous taxa, assimilated carbon derived from filamentous green algae (contributions to carbon ...

Fitness effects of assisted gene flow in an endangered salmonid population

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2024.
This study investigates the impact of assisted gene flow on the fitness of an endangered landlocked salmon population. Our results reveal that while assisted gene flow can have a positive influence on individual growth, it can also lead to decreased survival rates under predation risk.

Freshwater Gastropoda in Diyala River: A Study on Diversity, Distribution, and Environmental Variation

open access: yesProceedings of the International Conference on Applied Innovations in IT
This field study investigated the diversity, spatiotemporal distribution, and environmental relations of freshwater gastropods in the Diyala River (Iraq). Monthly surveys were conducted from September 2024 to March 2025 at three stream sites (Mahroot, Al-

Комплексний аналіз конхіологічних ознак видів родини Physidae (Mollusca, Pulmonata) України [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
