Specimens of the physalopterid nematode Proleptus obtusus Dujardin, 1845 collected from the intestine of the puffadder shyshark Haploblepharus edwardsii (Voigt) off De Hoop Nature Reserve, Cape Province, South Africa, made possible the redescription this little-known species.

Laparotomy performed on an 11-mth-old baby with an acute abdominal syndrome revealed a gangrenous loop of distal small bowel. Following resection of the affected bowel, the child progressed satisfactorily for 5 days. His condition then deteriorated and operation revealed a further segment of necrotic small bowel which was resected; after this the child

(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) Physaloptera brevivaginata Seurat, 1917 (Nematoda: Physalopteridae) is redescribed. Seurat's (1917) original description of this species was based on a single immature female. Detailed morphological study of several males, mature and, above all, immature females from the stomach of the lesser mouse ...

Physalopteroides tarentolae n. sp. is described from the gecko Tarentola annularis in the area around Khartoum, Sudan. Light and scanning electron micrographs showed that P. tarentolae belongs to the group of Physalopteroides species with pronounced dentition on the right pseudolabium. P. tarentolae is also distinguished by the absence of spicules, the

Therya Notes
The study of helminths in the Procyonidae of México is scarce, with 4 species of acanthocephalans, 8 species of nematodes, and 6 species of flatworms being recorded. For Bassariscus astutus, the cestodes Mesocestoides bassarisci and Taenia pencei are known, as well as unidentified nematode larvae.

Abbreviata nyassae n.sp. (Physalopteridae, Spiruroidea) from Agama atricollis in Nyasaland
Journal of Helminthology, 1964The cuticle is finely striated and is partially reflected over the lips. The cervical papillae are symmetrically placed and occupy a position just anterior to the junction of the two parts of the oesophagus at about the same level as the nerve ring, some 0·32 mm. from the anterior end. The pseudolips are hemispherical and lateral.
