Ultrathin Three-Dimensional Thermal Cloak

open access: yes, 2014
We report the first experimental realization of a three-dimensional thermal cloak shielding an air bubble in a bulk metal without disturbing the external conductive thermal flux.

Electrochemical Pathways for Nitrate Conversion to Ammonia: From Environmental Challenges to Ammonia Economy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective presents recent advances in electrocatalytic nitrate reduction, focusing on reaction mechanisms, catalyst design, and electrolyzer configurations. Key challenges in selectivity, stability, and practical wastewater treatment are highlighted, while future directions for advancing sustainable ammonia synthesis and nitrate remediation are ...

Regulation of Th1/Th2 cells in asthma development: A mathematical model.

open access: yes, 2019
Airway exposure levels of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) determine type I versus type II helper T cell induced experimental asthma. While high LPS levels induce Th1-dominant responses, low LPS levels derive Th2 cell induced asthma. The present paper develops a

Anisotropic Phonon Dynamics and Directional Transport in Actinide Van der Waals Semiconductor Uranium Triselenide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
USe3 is introduced as an actinide van der Waals semiconductor that mirrors the quasi‐one‐dimensional physics of transition‐metal trichalcogenides. Polarization‐resolved Raman spectroscopy on exfoliated flakes maps strong in‐plane phonon anisotropy and strain‐tunable mode shifts.

Width variation meandering evolution with a Physic Mathematical and Statistical based model

open access: yes, 2017
We can consider meandering rivers as a dynamic system that migrates and evolve along flood plains as a consequence of complex interactions involving the channel forms, flow and sediment transport (Seminara, 2006). Traditionally, the models proposed to simulated the displacement of the center line for this type of systems, used a linear interaction ...

A Basic Mathematical and Numerical Model for Gas Injection

open access: yes, 1996
In this paper we discuss a mathematical model for gas storage processes. In addition we outline an approach for numerical simulations. The focus is on model assumptions and limitations with respect to the software to be developed.

Freezing Patterns in Saline Soils: Modeling with Regard to the Osmotic Effect

open access: yesRussian Journal of Earth Sciences
Freezing patterns in a porous soil saturated with a saline solution are investigated with regard to osmotic effects, using a model suggested previously by the authors but in a more general formulation.

Enhanced Ferroelectric Phase Formation via Local Structure Modification in the Pre‐Crystalline State of Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hafnium zirconium oxide thin films are grown using plasma‐enhanced atomic layer deposition with the addition of an atomic layer annealing (ALA) step. ALA leads to a change in the short‐range structure of the deposit and encourages formation of the ferroelectric Pca21 phase. The result is wake‐up‐free performance with films exposed to ALA.

Shock propagation in locally driven granular systems

open access: yes, 2017
We study shock propagation in a system of initially stationary hard spheres that is driven by a continuous injection of particles at the origin. The disturbance created by the injection of energy spreads radially outward through collisions between ...
