A novel laboratory experiment was successfully implemented for undergraduate and graduate students in physical chemistry and nanotechnology. The main goal of the experiment was to rigorously determine the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-based sensing capabilities of colloidal silver nanoparticles (AgNPs).

After a brief introduction describing the main milestones in the development of DC polarography (DCP) as well as linear sweep (LSV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV), attention is paid to first applications of DCP in the reduction of organic compounds. In aqueous solutions the electron transfer (ET) is often accompanied by a proton transfer.
