Integrating mass spectrometry with MD simulations reveals the role of lipids in Na+/H+ antiporters

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Na+/H+antiporters transport sodium or lithium ions across the membrane in exchange for protons. Here the authors combine ion mobility mass spectrometry and molecular dynamics simulations to uncover a facilitating role for lipids in the transport ...

Observational studies of pre-stellar cores and infrared dark clouds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Stars like our Sun and planets like our Earth form in dense regions within interstellar molecular clouds, called pre-stellar cores (PSCs). PSCs provide the initial conditions in the process of star and planet formation.

Explicit schemes for time propagating many-body wavefunctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Accurate theoretical data on many time-dependent processes in atomic and molecular physics and in chemistry require the direct numerical solution of the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation, thereby motivating the development of very efficient time ...

UnidecNMR: automatic peak detection for NMR spectra in 1-4 dimensions

open access: yesNature Communications
To extract information from NMR experiments, users need to identify the number of resonances in the spectrum, together with characteristic features such as chemical shifts and intensities.

The Effect of an Inert Solid Reservoir on Molecular Abundances in Dense Interstellar Clouds

open access: yes, 2012
The question, what is the role of freeze-out of chemical species in determining the molecular abundances in the interstellar gas is a matter of debate.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Chemical control of colloidal self-assembly driven by the electrosolvation force

open access: yesNature Communications
Self-assembly of matter in solution generally relies on attractive interactions that overcome entropy and drive the formation of higher-order molecular and particulate structures.

Tiny Rare-Earth Fluoride Nanoparticles Activate Tumour Cell Growth via Electrical Polar Interactions

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2018
Localised extracellular interactions between nanoparticles and transmembrane signal receptors may well activate cancer cell growth. Herein, tiny LaF3 and PrF3 nanoparticles in DMEM+FBS suspensions stimulated tumour cell growth in three different human ...

Ionic Liquids Based on the Concept of Melting Point Lowering Due to Ethoxylation

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Most of the commonly used Ionic Liquids (ILs) contain bulky organic cations with suitable anions. With our COMPLET (Concept of Melting Point Lowering due to Ethoxylation), we follow a different approach.
