Clogging Patterns of Urban Road Storm-Water Inlets Caused by Floating Debris

open access: yesRenmin Zhujiang
To investigate the impact of different floating debris on the drainage performance of urban pipe network system systems, this study conducted a series of physical model tests based on slope experiments by considering the drainage process of the pipe ...

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

An Experimental Study of the Frictional Behavior at the Interface Soil-Structure with Regards to Wall Friction Effect and Clogging Related to Surface Roughness Form

open access: yesCivil and Environmental Engineering
The interactions between soil-structure are largely governed by the shear strength at the soil-structure interface, particularly in situations involving large displacements, known as shear residual strength.

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

SENSITIVITY ANALYSES OF A MULTIPHYSICS LONG-TERM CLOGGING MODEL FOR STEAM GENERATORS

open access: yesInternational Journal for Uncertainty Quantification
Long-term operation of nuclear steam generators can result in the occurrence of clogging, a deposition phenomenon that may increase the risk of mechanical and vibration loadings on tube bundles and internal structures, as well as potentially affecting their response to hypothetical accidental transients.

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Deformability based Cell Sorting using Microfluidic Ratchets Enabling Phenotypic Separation of Leukocytes Directly from Whole Blood

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The separation of leukocytes from whole blood is a prerequisite for many biological assays. Traditional methods require significant sample volumes and are often undesirable because they expose leukocytes to harsh physical or chemical treatment.

An Inkjet‐Printed Platinum‐Based Temperature Sensing Element on Polyimide Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An inkjet‐printed, meander‐structured, nanoparticle platinum‐based resistive temperature sensors on polyimide substrates are demonstrated as proof‐of‐concept. Optimized sintering at 250°C enables stable conductive structures. The Pt100‐ and Pt1000‐type sensors exhibit linear resistance–temperature characteristics with stable TCR in the 20°C–80°C range,
