The distribution of animals in the eastern North Pacific and its relationship to physical and chemical conditions [PDF]

open access: yesDeep Sea Research and Oceanographic Abstracts, 1962
Sampling with the Isaacs-Kidd midwater trawl yields good quantities of large and easily-identified animals that can be used as "indicator organisms" to identify water masses in the northeastern Pacific Ocean. Particularly useful are the myctophid fishes Lampanyctus leucopsarus, Diaphus theta, Tarletonbeania crenularis, Electrona arctica, E.

Iot Based Physical Condition Screening System for Animals

open access: yesInternational Journal of Recent Technology and Engineering, 2019
Animal husbandry and its health monitoring is one of the prime facts for the socio-economic development of a nation. This necessitates monitoring the wellbeing of the animals and thereby increasing the food supply of the country. Advancement in wearable biosensors and wireless communication technologies help in ubiquitous E-health monitoring of animals.

EVALUATION OF THE PHLORIDZINE AND ICARIIN INFLUENCE RATE ON THE LAVEL OF WORKINC CAPACITY AND NEUROLOGICAL STATUS OF THE ANIMALS IN THE CONDITIONS OF EXHAUSTING PHYSICAL AND PSYCOEMOTIONAL STRESSES

open access: yesPharmacy & Pharmacology, 2015
We have conducted a study about the influence of natural flavonoids of phloridzine and icariins on the working capacity and a state of neurological status of animals in conditions of long exhausting physical and psychoemotional stresses. We have used outbred male mice weighing 20-25 g in the experiment.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Comparison of the Amount of Animal Protein Taken and the Physical Condition of the Junior High School Pupil in the Urbanized Farm Villages and Mountain Villages in the Western Part of Saitama Prefecture (Report 1)

open access: yesThe Japanese Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics, 1970
Physical conditions of younger generations in Japan are progressing year by year, however, on the contrary the depression of physical power is observed. Therefore, the so-called “Condition of physical power” is intensely desired in the whole country. In this study the relation between the amount of animal protein taken and physical condition of junior ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
