The Effect of Physical Conditioning on Cardiac Response to Acute Exertion
Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1974The effect of chronic exercise (training) and acute exertion on myocardial water and electrolyte metabolism, Na–K-ATPase activity, and morphology was studied in the male rat. Training increased the potassium content in myocardial cells, the effect depending on the duration of the training period.

EXCESSIVE PHYSICAL EXERTION AND ITS EFFECT ON THE KIDNEYS
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1939The kidney is an organ of secretion and excretion that can carry a heavy load over a short period even while temporarily deranged from normal because of this extra load placed on it and yet has a most emphatic power of reconstruction and early return to normal when this load has been removed.

Differentiated ratings of perceived exertion during physical exercise
Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1982The typical overall (undifferentiated) rating of perceived exertion (RPE) appears to represent an individual's integration of various physiological sensations that have different subjective weightings. Two categories of physiological factors have been suggested as major determinants of RPE during physical exercise.
