Physico-mathematical model of complex heat exchange between an electric infrared radiant heating panel and the environment

open access: yesBudownictwo o Zoptymalizowanym Potencjale Energetycznym, 2019
One of the main elements of heating systems is a heating device, whose construction is constantly being improved upon on thanks to the development of the science surrounding the materials’ physical and chemical properties of the working bodies ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

The Electricity Generation Landscape of Bioenergy in Germany

open access: yesEnergies
Disaggregated data on electricity generation from bioenergy are very helpful for investigating the economic and technical effects of this form of renewable energy on the German power sector with a high temporal and spatial resolution.

Scattering spectra models for physics

open access: yesPNAS Nexus
Abstract Physicists routinely need probabilistic models for a number of tasks such as parameter inference or the generation of new realizations of a field. Establishing such models for highly non-Gaussian fields is a challenge, especially when the number of samples is limited.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

A Physical Model of the Reeb Foliation

open access: yesAxioms
In this paper, after explaining some basic aspects of the modern theory of foliations with the aim of describing the celebrated Reeb foliation, we propose the first construction of a comprehensive physical model of it. The construction of the model is achieved through an implementation of geometric methods for 3D printing.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
