Physics

Medical Teacher, 1981
It is tempting for a lecturer in physics to present medical students with a course which, though sound and vigorous, is more suited to a physicist or engineer. At Guy's Hospital Medical School, physics is taught at a level which the student can follow and the relevance of the subject to the practice of medicine is made clear.

The “physics” of soil water physics

Water Resources Research, 1986
Some aspects of the underlying conceptualizations (as opposed to experimental methodologies or mathematical algorithms) in soil water physics are reviewed. Contemporary issues relating to the symmetry properties of the Richards Equation, the status of the energy picture of soil water, and the theoretical description of coupled heat and water flows in ...

Physics or Physical

Physics Bulletin, 1964
A minor problem in setting up the new universities is what address to use since the word 'Department' is not allowed, although we sometimes forget and say 'department'. For the scientific subjects the word 'Laboratory' describes the place where the hardware is to be delivered.

Physicalizing the Image, Physicalizing the Digital

International Journal of Art, Culture, Design, and Technology, 2012
Radically shifting personal experience of the visual image from virtual worlds like Second Life, from flat screens, cinema, and paper to physical forms, subverts the predominance of the digital realm. Living on the surface of the screen minimizes the tactility of materials and the resonance of memory and meaning embodied in objects.

A physical critique of physical causation

Synthese, 2007
The conserved quantities theory of causation (CQTC) attempts to use physics as the basis for an account of causation. However, a closer examination of the physics involved in CQTC reveals several critical failures. Some of the conserved quantities in physics cannot be used to distinguish causal interactions.

Of Physics and Factory Physics

Production and Operations Management, 2014
The “Principle of Least Action" is the foundational principle of fundamental physics. Application of this principle to the supply chain naturally results in an “uncertainty principle” linking variation in production to variation in net‐inventory. The model also provides an easy means of determining the stationary distribution of net‐inventory for a ...

Problems with the ‘physical’ in physicalism

South African Journal of Philosophy, 2015
Hempel's Dilemma is a challenge that has to be met by any formulation of physicalism that specifies the physical by reference to a particular physical theory. It poses the problem that if one's specification of the physical is ‘current’ physical theory, then the physicalism which depends on it is false because current physics is false; and if the ...
