White Matter Microstructural Abnormalities in Neonatal Onset Genetic Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Recent evidence indicates that epilepsy is associated with abnormal white matter. If seizures alter white matter, then the impact upon network function, epileptogenesis, and cognition could be pronounced in neonates undergoing rapid developmental myelination. Neonates with epilepsy due to nonstructural genetic causes provide a unique

Upper Cervical Cord Area as a Biomarker of Conversion to Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study assessed whether upper cervical cord area (UCCA) measured on routine brain MRI can serve as a biomarker of conversion to SPMS. Methods This is a single‐center retrospective cohort study of RRMS patients with cross‐sectional and longitudinal analyses of clinical and MRI data. Future SPMS converters were matched by age, sex,

Physics I

open access: yes, 2017
Physics I is a first-year physics course which introduces students to classical mechanics. Topics include: space and time; straight-line kinematics; motion in a plane; forces and equilibrium; experimental basis of Newton's laws; particle dynamics ...

Mathematical physics: classical mechanics

open access: yes, 2018
As a limit theory of quantum mechanics, classical dynamics comprises a large variety of phenomena, from computable (integrable) to chaotic (mixing) behavior.

On the Status of the Geodesic Principle in Newtonian and Relativistic Physics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A theorem due to Bob Geroch and Pong Soo Jang ["Motion of a Body in General Relativity." Journal of Mathematical Physics 16(1), (1975)] provides a sense in which the geodesic principle has the status of a theorem in General Relativity (GR).

Is Physics Sick? [In Praise of Classical Physics]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, it is argued that theoretical physics is more akin to an organism than to a rigid structure. It is in this sense that the epithet, "sick", applies to it. It is argued that classical physics is a model of a healthy science, and the degree of sickness of modern physics is measured accordingly.

COVID‐19 Vaccination Is Not Associated With the Development of Idiopathic Inflammatory Myositis in US Veterans

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Several case reports have proposed a potential association between COVID‐19 vaccination and the subsequent development of idiopathic inflammatory myositis (IIM). This study examined prior COVID‐19 vaccination in US veterans who developed new‐onset IIM compared to those without new‐onset IIM.

Quantum physics meets biology

open access: yes, 2009
oai:arXiv.org:0911.0155Quantum physics and biology have long been regarded as unrelated disciplines, describing nature at the inanimate microlevel on the one hand and living species on the other hand.

Classical physics and the Church--Turing Thesis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the ACM, 2003
Would physical laws permit the construction of computing machines that are capable of solving some problems much faster than the standard computational model? Recent evidence suggests that this might be the case in the quantum world. But the question is of great interest even in the realm of classical physics.

Mycophenolate Mofetil Treatment Reduces the Risk of Treatment Escalation Due to Vascular Complications in Limited Cutaneous Systemic Sclerosis: Emulation of a Target Trial From the Italian Rheumatology Society SPRING Registry

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) use in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) is relatively uncommon because of the lower fibrotic burden and the predominance of vascular complications. In vitro observations and clinical data from transplanted patients suggest a protective effect of MMF on endothelial function.
