Developing a cyber-physical fluid dynamics facility for fluid–structure interaction studies
Journal of Fluids and Structures, 2011Abstract In fluid–structure interaction studies, such as vortex-induced vibration, one needs to select essential parameters for the system, such as mass, spring stiffness, and damping. Normally, these parameters are set physically by the mechanical arrangement. However, our approach utilizes a combination of a physical system, comprises a fluid and

Fluid dynamics approach to free reed physics
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2017The periodic vibration of a free reed subject to a steady pressure gradient (bellows pressure) is examined from a fluid dynamics approach. In this analytic study, the self-excited forcing function is modeled from the static and dynamic pressures acting on the vibrating tongue surface.

On the problem of fluid dynamics foundation for applications in the space physics
Astrophysics and Space Science, 2000This paper is devoted to the justification of gasdynamic equations in space physics. Several examples are presented to show an important role of gas dynamics in solving space physics problems. The authors discusses the kinetic foundation of fluid dynamics equations, and then establishes basic criteria for deriving the hydrodynamic equations of a fully ...

Inhomogenous diffusion equations in plasma physics and fluid dynamics
Canadian Journal of Physics, 1978Using the method of self-similar solution of partial differential equations, analytical solutions for the two- and three-dimensional inhomogeneous diffusion equations with the diffusion coefficients D ~ rm are obtained. The solutions found can be useful in studying the diffusion characteristics of some fluids and plasmas.

In the mammalian order Artiodactyla, the majority of arterial blood entering the intracranial cavity is supplied by a large arterial meshwork called the carotid rete. This vascular structure functionally replaces the internal carotid artery. Extensive experimentation has demonstrated that the artiodactyl carotid rete drives one of the most effective ...

Geophysical fluid dynamics: understanding (almost) everything with rotating shallow water models
Contemporary physics (Print), 2018Random motions can be found all across science and engineering. Examples of random motions include: diffusion of particles in physics and chemistry, turbulent flows, search patterns of foraging animals, spreading of contaminants in geological and ...

A simple physical approach for deriving the characteristic equations of fluid dynamics
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 1990AbstractA simple physical approach for deriving the characteristic equations of fluid dynamics is presented. The approach is based on the physical concept that information propagates through a flowfield along pathlines due to particle motion and along wavelines due to acoustic wave motion.
