Physiologic characteristics of hypertension
The American Journal of Medicine, 1972Abstract The types of hypertension now recognized are characterized by sets of physiologic abnormalities that involve cardiac output, peripheral resistance, cardiopulmonary blood volume, sympathetic neural activity, intravascular volume, renin production and aldosterone secretion to varying degrees.

Physiological characteristics of America's Cup sailors
Journal of Sports Sciences, 2007The aim of this study was to assess the physiological profile of America's Cup grinders and mastmen, by measuring energy expenditure during sailing and assessing their aerobic and anaerobic fitness. The study focused on estimating the energy used during grinding activity, by measuring oxygen uptake (VO(2)) during sail setting in real sailing conditions.

Barrett's Syndrome:Morphological and Physiological Characteristics
Scandinavian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1972The morphological and physiological characteristics in five cases of Barrett's syndrome are described. All the patients had a stricture at the junction between the two types of epithelium as well as hiatal hernia with reflux. In addition, three patients had ulcers in the area lined with columnar epithelium. The epithelium distal to the stricture was ...

Physiological Characteristics of Female Masters Swimmers
The Physician and Sportsmedicine, 1981In brief: Two female masters swimmers, ages 70 and 71, members of the 1980 All-American Masters Swim Team, were compared with sedentary females of the same age and with younger female athletes. Physiological characteristics of ovine pyloric sphincter
American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 1986A special probe was validated to record in situ pyloric sphincter activity by changes in fiber-optic light transmission and sleeve pressure associated with the propagation of antroduodenal contractions, the onset of the phase of regular spiking activity (RSA) of the migrating myoelectric complex, the RSA-like events elicited by duodenal acidification,

Physiological Characteristics of Competitive Cyclists
The Physician and Sportsmedicine, 1980Like other endurance athletes, competitive cyclists have exceptionally high maximal oxygen consumption values. But the author feels Vo2 max shouldn't stand alone as a predictor of success.

Physiological Characteristics of Female Athletes
Research Quarterly. American Alliance for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, 1974Abstract A review of the literature revealed that female athletes in divergent sports and championship classes tended to be some variety of mesomorph, somewhat stronger and maybe leaner than the “average” female, able to inhale and exhale large volumes of air and to circulate elevated quantities of oxygen for the achievement of a high aerobic capacity,

Molecular characteristics and physiology of microsporidia
Microbes and Infection, 2001A survey of the molecular features of microsporidia is presented which attempts to comment on unresolved questions concerning the physiology of these amitochondrial intracellular parasites. Various transports of host-derived molecules can be predicted and trehalose appears as a potential reserve of glucose for energy metabolism.
