A Board's Role in Improving Quality and Safety - Guidance and Resources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
There are a number of key documents and resources applicable to boards and executives within healthcare in Ireland. This guidance builds on existing documentation and provides a central repository of international and national perspectives on the board’s

PHYSIOLOGICAL MECHANISMS OF DEVELOPMENT OF PHYSICAL QUALITIES

open access: yes
Exercise creates mechanisms for the body to adapt to physical loads. Regular exercise increases the body's functional capacity. This can be explained by the effect of exercise on individual physiological parameters, i.e., the body's adaptation to physical loads, as a result of comparing changes in the physiological performance of trained and non ...

Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

Unique circulating miRNAome signatures captured with distinct molecular states in Lynch syndrome and sporadic colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNA profiles distinguish nonmalignant Lynch syndrome from cancer‐associated Lynch syndrome, sporadic colorectal cancer, and healthy controls. Age‐stratified analysis reveals disease‐specific regulatory states, and a six‐miRNA panel shows concordant separation in an independent colorectal tissue cohort.

Characterization of therapeutic antibodies targeting lymphatic and vascular resistance factor for the treatment of hypervascularized and highly metastatic cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LVRF (lymphatic and vascular resistance factor) is a VEGFA splice variant upregulated in response to anti‐angiogenic therapy that fosters tumor adaptation through enhanced vascularization, lymphangiogenesis, and metastatic dissemination. Targeting LVRF with fully human neutralizing antibodies disrupts these processes and limits resistant tumor growth ...

Physiological performance and expression of isozymes in maize seeds subjected to water stress

open access: yesJournal of Seed Science, 2014
Early characterization of genotypes, through the previous assessment of physiological quality of their seeds and their enzymatic systems, can provide parameters capable of aiding in the selection of new maize cultivars tolerant to water stress.

Reprogramming tumor cells with LCOR mRNA nanotherapy to enhance immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LCOR (Ligand‐dependent corepressor) mRNA encapsulated in polymeric nanoparticles restores LCOR activity in tumor cells, constraining aggressive tumor cell states and increasing tumor immunogenicity. This reprogramming makes tumor cells more vulnerable to T‐cell attack and enhances their response to immune‐checkpoint immunotherapy.

The impact of leukocyte‐associated RNA retention on platelet RNA‐based cancer detection

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Platelets carry RNA signals that may help detect cancer, but platelet samples can also retain RNA from white blood cells. We found that this retained white blood cell signal did not significantly affect machine learning cancer classification, suggesting that the cancer‐related RNA signal in platelets is largely independent of leukocyte‐associated RNA ...
