A Model of Mountain Social‐Ecological Systems to Catalyze Multi‐Actor Collaborations Toward Sustainability

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 13, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Addressing sustainability challenges in mountain regions where human activities strongly overlap requires multi‐actor collaboration and interdisciplinary methods. Yet, such collaborative processes need to account for the existence of diverse representations of mountain social‐ecological systems amongst actors.

Divergent responses of alpine bryophytes and lichens to climate change in the Swiss Alps

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 35, Issue 4, July/August 2024.
The effect of climate on cryptogams was studied over 21 years on four summits in the Swiss Alps. Total bryophyte cover remained stable, but species richness and six species declined, probably due to several droughts. In contrast, terricolous lichen cover increased significantly on the second‐lowest summit, and species richness increased on the two ...

ReSurveyEurope: A database of resurveyed vegetation plots in Europe

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 35, Issue 2, March/April 2024.
We introduce ReSurveyEurope – a new data source of 79,190 resurveyed vegetation plots in Europe, compiled by a collaborative network of vegetation scientists. We describe the scope of this initiative, provide an overview of currently available data, governance, data contribution rules, and accessibility. In addition, we outline further steps, including

Structural, ecological and biogeographical attributes of European vegetation alliances

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 27, Issue 1, January/March 2024.
This new database contains standardized attributes of 12 variables that characterize 1106 phytosociological alliances dominated by vascular plants defined in EuroVegChecklist. These variables include dominant life form, phenological optimum, substrate moisture, substrate reaction, salinity, nutrient status, soil organic matter, vegetation region ...
