Extensive evolution of cereal ribosome-inactivating proteins translates into unique structural features, activation mechanisms, and physiological roles [PDF]
Ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) are a class of cytotoxic enzymes that can depurinate rRNAs thereby inhibiting protein translation. Although these proteins have also been detected in bacteria, fungi, and even some insects, they are especially ...

Synthesis of 3,5,3′, 4′-Tetrahydroxy--stilbene4′-O-β-D-glucopyranoside by Glucosyltransferases from
Two glucosyltransferase isozymes from Phytolacca americana, PaGT3 and PaGT2 , catalyzed stereo- and regio-selective monoglucosylation of 3,5,3′,4′- tetrahydroxy-trans-stilbene to yield 3,5,3′,4′-tetrahydroxy-trans-stilbene-4′-O-β-D-glucopyranoside.

Triterpene Glycosides from the Cultures of Phytolacca americana.
A new triterpene glycoside I was isolated together with the five known triterpene glycosides 2-6 from the cultures of Phytolacca americana. The structure of 1 was elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data and comparison of its NMR data with those of 2-7 and chemical degradation.
