Toxic elements and energy accumulation in topsoil and plants of spruce ecosystems

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2017
The objective of this research was to evaluate trends and relationships of energy and toxic elements accumulation in A-horizon (the depth of 0-5 cm) of soils and in selected plants of the hemioligotrophic (Dystric Cambisols) and oligotrophic (Skeletic ...

FIRE INFLUENCE ON DYNAMICS OF STEPPE PHYTOCENOSES BELOW-GROUND PHYTOMASS IN BURTINSKAYA STEPPE (ORENBURG RESERVE)

open access: yes, 2020
Steppe ecosystems are the most vulnerable to the influence of the pyrogenic factor. The study of the regularities of the vegetation cover restoration in the burnt steppe phytocenoses is urgent, as it is connected with the wide spread of fires in the ...

Structure and Dynamics of Tree Stands at the Upper Timberline in the Western Part of the Putorana Plateau [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Analysis of the age structure of Dahurian larch (Larix gmelinii Rupr.) forests in the western part of the Putorana Plateau (Sukhie Gory Range) and comparison of diachronous topographic maps and satellite images have revealed changes in the altitudinal ...

Substantial Insect Herbivory in a South African Savanna‐Forest Mosaic: A Neglected Topic

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2024.
Our work represents a rare study of insect herbivory across a large national park, the Hluhluwe‐iMfolozi Park (900 km2) in South Africa. This study not only connects insect herbivory to key and typical savanna drivers: rainfall, abundances of mammals and fire frequencies, but also examines the impact of two insect feeding guilds (chewers and miners ...

Reduction in difficulties of phytomass combustion by co-combustion of wood biomass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Nowadays, the most used biofuel in Slovak republic is log wood. Alternatively, there are also biofuels based on vegetal biomass (phytomass) like wheat straw or grass. The advantage of these biofuels is lower cost price because they are usually considered

Interacting effects of sand, slugs and jute drive community composition in direct‐seeded urban wildflower meadows

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 11, Page 2762-2773, November 2024.
Using low‐nutrient substrates to cap and bury the weed seed bank, irrigation and direct seeding, we demonstrate it is possible to return plants from threatened grassy ecosystems to urban sites, creating a dense and species‐rich native understorey within 1 year whilst reducing labour requirements during meadow establishment.
