Marchantia polymorpha Defense Against Snail Herbivory

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2025.
Ancestral liverwort species were already equipped with the jasmonate pathway to fend off herbivores. However, insect appearance on earth does not fit with the estimated age of bryophytes, as they probably evolved million years later. We found that the snail Helix aspersa readily feeds on Marchantia polymorpha and that a Mpcoi1 mutant, where the ...

An Insect Effector Mimics Its Host Immune Regulator to Undermine Plant Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 11, March 20, 2025.
Under normal conditions, high OsGF14e expression recruits OsEDR1l and enhances OsEDR1l‐mediated MAPK cascade to restrict immunity and promote plant growth. Upon insect infestation, the OsGF14e signaling circuit is rewired toward active immune responses that confer resistance to BPH at the expense of growth.

Evolutionary Relationships of the Phytophthora 1a Subclade Species Based on Complete Mitogenomes, and Novel Markers for Their Differentiation

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 3, March 2025.
Mitogenomic analysis revealed the evolutionary relationships among Phytophthora 1a subclade species. Novel markers were identified to be sufficiently informative to distinguish between closely related species. ABSTRACT Phytophthora is a genus of oomycetes that includes many aggressive pathogens capable of devastating farmlands and forests worldwide ...

Phytophthora palmivora of cocoa and its control.

open access: yesNetherlands Journal of Agricultural Science, 1958
Symptoms and factors affecting the incidence of Phytophthora palmivora are described and discussed. Both branch and leaf canopy treatments have been successfully applied with Kieken's automatic mist blowers. A form of cuprous oxide, Caocobre-Sandoz, has given good control when applied at 2 1/2-3 kg. in 100-2001.

High diversity of Phytophthora species in natural ecosystems and nurseries of Portugal: Detrimental side effect of plant introductions from the age of discovery to modern globalization

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 74, Issue 2, Page 330-362, February 2025.
High diversity of known and new, mostly exotic Phytophthora species in forests, nurseries and streams across Portugal and numerous associated forest tree declines are a consequence of long‐term plant introductions and outplantings. Abstract Between 2010 and 2015, an extensive survey of Phytophthora diversity was performed across Portugal.
