Genomic signatures of heterokaryosis in the oomycete pathogen Bremia lactucae. [PDF]
Lettuce downy mildew caused by Bremia lactucae is the most important disease of lettuce globally. This oomycete is highly variable and rapidly overcomes resistance genes and fungicides.

Unraveling the senses of Phytophthora; leads to novel control strategies? [PDF]
Oomycetes cause devastating diseases on plants and animals. They cause major yield losses in many crop plants and their control heavily depends on agrochemicals. This is certainly true for the potato late blight pathogen Phytophthora infestans.

Susceptibility of Some Eastern Forest Species to Phytophthora ramorum [PDF]
We tested some common Eastern forest species for their reaction to stem and leaf inoculation with Phytophthora ramorum, the pathogen that causes sudden oak death. Stem lesions were produced on inoculated seedlings of 12 Eastern forest species following 72 to 76 days of incubation in a containment greenhouse cubicle at 20°C.

Novel plant diebacks are emerging in association with reoccurring droughts in California. Field isolations and greenhouse trials show that latent pathogens and drought together, and not drought alone, cause the most severe diebacks. ABSTRACT The detection of emergent biotic and abiotic threats to plant health is challenging in an interconnected world ...

Structures of Phytophthora RXLR Effector Proteins: a conserved but adaptable fold underpins functional diversity [PDF]
Phytopathogens deliver effector proteins inside host plant cells to promote infection. These proteins can also be sensed by the plant immune system, leading to restriction of pathogen growth.

Ocena ryzyka wystąpienia Phytophthora ramorum w lasach Polski [PDF]
The primary aim of this study was to analyze the risk of introducing the pathogen Phytophthora ramorum to Poland via seedlings (e.g., from ornamental nurseries) into forests, and the associated consequences for Polish forest-forming species.

Seasonal trends in response to inoculation of coast live oak with Phytophthora ramorum [PDF]
We developed a branch cutting inoculation method to provide a controlled system for studying variation in response to inoculation of coast live oak (Quercus agrifolia) with Phytophthora ramorum.

Recovery of Phytophthora ramorum Following Exposure to Temperature Extremes [PDF]
We examined the impact of exposure to high and low temperature extremes on recovery of Phytophthora ramorum both as free chlamydospores and within infected rhododendron tissue over a 7-day period. Chlamydospores held in moistened sand were incubated at 30, 35, 40, 0, –10, and –20°C for up to 7 days.
