Comparative analysis of the molecular starvation response of Southern Ocean copepods
Abstract Large lipid‐storing copepods dominate mesozooplankton biomass in the polar oceans and form a critical link between primary production and higher trophic levels. The ecological success of these species depends on their ability to survive periods of food deprivation in a highly seasonal environment, but the molecular changes that mediate ...

ABSTRACT Wildfire frequency and intensity are increasing globally, impacting terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Deposition of burned materials into aquatic environments can affect biotic communities and nutrient cycling. We investigated how post‐fire terrestrial deposition shapes microbial and zooplankton community composition and function across time

Genome‐Wide Adaptation to a Complex Environmental Gradient in a Keystone Phytoplankton Species
ABSTRACT Marine phytoplankton play essential roles in global primary production and biogeochemical cycles. Yet, the evolutionary genetic underpinnings of phytoplankton adaptation to complex marine and coastal environments, where many environmental variables fluctuate and interact, remain unclear.

ABSTRACT Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) super‐groups, comprising 20+, tightly aggregated, feeding individuals, form during the austral summer in the southern Benguela ecosystem off the west coast of South Africa. This phenomenon, observed since 2011, is thought to be linked to increased productivity from positive chlorophyll‐a anomalies ...

Saxitoxin Linked to Deaths of Northern Fur Seals in the Southeast Bering Sea
ABSTRACTIn August 2024, a northern fur seal mortality event was observed on St. Paul Island, AK in the southeast (SE) Bering Sea. Ten seals in good body condition were found dead along with large accumulations of dead fish on Benson Beach located on St. Paul Island.
