A new mackielline mite, Mackiella reclinata n. sp., from a South African indigenous palm-tree, Phoenix reclinata, is described in detail using different microscopy techniques. A CSLM study of M. reclinata n. sp. internal genitalia shows that mites of this genus possess teardrop shaped spermathecae, sausage-like spermathecal tubes directed anteriad and ...

AbstractAdults of Phytoptus oculatus n. sp. are described. These are unusual among Eriophyoidea in possessing eye-like structures lateral to the prodorsal shield. Diagnoses for the genus Phytoptus and two provisional species groups within the genus are included.

Abstract Two species of eriophyoids, bud mite Trisetacus juniperinus (Nalepa) and vagrant mite Epitrimerus cupressi (Keifer) (new record), were commonly found on evergreen cypress (Cupressus sem-pervirens L.) in Italy. The distribution and biology of these mites were studied in a seed orchard on two groups of half-sib plants with common mother.

Plants of the genus Nothofagus (Fagales, Nothofagaceae) has ancient South American-Australasian disjunctive distribution and represent a perspective model for biogeographical studies in Eriophyoidea. Among six currently known eriophyoid genera reported from Nothofagus (Acalitus, Aceria, Austracus, Cymoptus, Rectalox, and Nothacus) only genus Cymoptus ...

The monogeneric subfamily Novophytoptinae is a separate lineage of phytoptids restricted to endoparasitism on herbaceous monocots of the order Poales. Novophytoptines live under the epidermis of their hosts where they feed on parenchymatous cells and reproduce therein. It is unknown yet how novophytoptines penetrate the plant epidermis, but preliminary

New records and supplementary morphological descriptions of two rarely encountered Trisetacus species from Pinaceae, T. abietis Postner 1968 and T. cedri (Nalepa 1920), are reported. Trisetacus abietis was found in Abkhazia under the needle epidermis of Abies nordmanniana (Steven) Spach, a conifer endemic to the mountainous Asian coast of the Black Sea.
