Natural Forest Clearings Enable the Persistence of Stable Spotted Hyena Populations in Congo Basin Rainforests
Biotropica, Volume 57, Issue 5, September 2025.Spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) are known to range across broad savanna regions of sub‐Saharan Africa, but there is very limited understanding of how and to what extent they use lowland rainforest habitats. We use camera trap data and GPS telemetry to show that bais, natural rainforest clearings, can support hyenas living exclusively in the rainforest—Ella M. Bradford, Evan G. Hockridge, Gwili E. M. Ecosphere, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2025.Abstract
Seed dispersal by endozoochory is essential to plant dynamics, but once released in the feces, the seeds face a hostile environment that is not always favorable to germination. Indeed, feces may contain inhibitors, have high seed density, and be densely structured.Grégoire Pauly, Cécile Vanpé, Mélanie Roy, Jérôme Sentilles, Jean‐David Chapelin‐Viscardi, Tanguy Daufresne, Christophe Baltzinger +6 morewiley +1 more sourceComplex population genetic structure of the bark beetle predator Thanasimus formicarius (L.) (Coleoptera: Cleridae) across its European range
Agricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 27, Issue 3, Page 437-451, August 2025.Abstract Thanasimus formicarius (L.) (Coleoptera: Cleridae) is an important bark beetle predator and can reduce bark beetle population densities of some of the most severe forest pests in Europe.

Orbis Litterarum, Volume 80, Issue 3, Page 239-268, June 2025.Résumé
Daniela Venturawiley +1 more sourcePopulation dynamics and morphometrics of Nile monitors along a gradient of urbanization in KwaZulu‐Natal, South Africa
Journal of Zoology, Volume 326, Issue 1, Page 23-36, May 2025.We used mark‐resight and baited camera traps to compare population density and demographics of Nile monitors (Varanus niloticus) on a gradient of land use, namely a golf course, a farm and a nature reserve in KwaZulu‐Natal, South Africa, during 2022–2023. We also collected detailed morphometrics on 112 Nile monitors throughout KwaZulu‐Natal.E. E. Z. Genevier, C. Price, N. Evans, J. P. Streicher, C. T. Downs +4 morewiley +1 more sourceSpotted! Remote camera traps used in a novel design reveal a perilous situation for the Critically Endangered Northwest African cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus hecki) in a conflict‐affected protected area in Benin
Ecological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 6, Issue 2, April–June 2025.This first long‐term study of the Critically Endangered Northwest African cheetah in Benin highlights a very low density. The Pendjari National Park is likely to be a core area for cheetah in the WAP (W‐Arly‐Pendjari) Complex. Urgent action is needed to protect this iconic cat.Marine Drouilly, Audrey Ipavec, Oksana Grente, Robin Horion, Aurlus Ouindeyama, Philipp Henschel, Vincent Lapeyre, Yekini Chabi N'Diaye, Ali Shams, Christine Breitenmoser, Sarah M. Food Risk Assess Europe, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2025.Abstract
Several species of Lepidoptera with caterpillars bearing urticating hairs are increasing their range in metropolitan France from year to year, such as the pine processionary (Thaumetopoea pityocampa Denis et Schiffermüller 1775) whose presence was historically limited to the south of France, and which is gradually being observed in the north ...Nicolas Desneux, Andrea Battisti, Anne‐Sophie Brinquin, Rudy Caparros‐Megido, Gilbert Gault, Carole Kerdelhué, Stéphane Krebs, Myriam Mérad, Catherine Pecquet, Tina Rambonilaza, Thomas Le Bourgeois, Philippe Castagnone, Thierry Candresse, Nicolas Desneux, Sandrine Eveillard, Florence Fontaine, Pascal Gentit, Martin Godefroidd, Lucia Guerin, Bruno Hostachy, Hervé Jactel, Eleni Kazakou, Christophe Le May, Eric Lombaert, David Markowski, Charles Manceau, Arnaud Monty, Maria Navajas, Céline Robin, Aurélien Sallé, Frédéric Suffert, Stéphan Steyer, Pierre‐Yves Teycheney, Eric Verdin, François Verheggen, Gilles Meyer, Xavier Bailly, Catherine Belloc, Stéphane Bertagnoli, Alain Boissy, Séverine Boullier, Henri‐Jean Boulouis, Eric Cardinale, Aurélie Courcoul, Alice De Boyer Des Roches, Barbara Dufour, Veasna Duong, Emmanuelle Gilot‐Fromont, Etienne Giraud, Lionel Grisot, Claire Guinat, Nadia Haddad, Elsa Jourdain, Hervé Juin, Sophie Le Bouquin‐Le Neveu, Caroline Le Maréchal, Sophie Le Poder, Yves Millemann, Pierre Mormède, Carole Peroz, Claire Ponsart, Céline Richomme, Claude Saegerman, Jean‐François Valarcher, Isabelle Vallée, Agnès Waret‐Szkuta, Natacha Woronoff‐Rehn, Georges De Sousa, Olivier Adam, Alain Aymard, Jean‐Christophe Cahuzac, Pierre Greve, Philippe Hartemann, Claire Hellio, Dominique Pessel, Vincent Richard, Christophe Soumet, Laura Maxim, Louis‐Georges Soler, Bénédicte Apouey, Luc Baumstark, Céline Bonnet, Thierry Brunelle, France Caillavet, Alain Carpentier, Thomas Coutrot, Cécile Detang‐Dessendre, Serge Garcia, Julien Gauthey, Emmanuelle Lavaine, Christine Le Clainche, Marc Leandri, Youenn Loheac, Sélim Louafi, Eric Plottu, Elodie Rouviere, Maïder Saint‐Jean, Denis Salles, Léa Tardieu, Jean‐Christophe Vergnaud, Jens Abildtrup, Catherine Collignon, Karine Fiore, Emeline Hily, Sandra Sinno‐Tellier, Emmanuel Gachet +105 morewiley +1 more sourceLégalité et piège illégal
