Crest length is an important parameter in influencing the discharge handling capacity of a weir. Nonlinear weirs with longer crests are cost effective alternatives for those existing dam structures which are more susceptible to failure due to loss of ...

Experimental Study of Flow Hydraulic in Piano Key Weirs at Different Parapet Wall [PDF]
Piano key weirs are a new type of Weirs that are designed to improve dams discharge capacity. Generally in increasing the upstream head water decreases the discharge capacity this tyre of weir.

Effects of weir geometry on scour development in the downstream of Piano Key Weirs [PDF]
Abstract Scouring in the downstream of all weirs, including Piano Key Weirs (PKWs), can have major safety implications. Since the research on downstream scouring of PKWs is very limited, and the weir geometry is also known to have an impact on downstream scouring, this study investigated scouring in the downstream of PKWs with ...

Heavy seasonal rains over a dam reservoir can lead to huge floods and consequent failure of the dam structure. One way of controlling the adverse effects of heavy rains is to use weirs with larger dimensions such as piano key weirs (PKWs).

Parapet Wall Effect on Piano Key Weir Efficiency
AbstractThe piano key weir is a cost-effective solution for rehabilitation as well as for new dam projects with a high level of constraints (e.g., limited space, high specific flood discharge, smal...

Method for the preliminary design of Piano Key Weirs [PDF]
The Piano Key Weir (PKW) is a particular geometry of weir associating to a labyrinth shape the use of overhangs to reduce the basis length. The PKW could thus be directly placed on a dam crest. Together with its important discharge capacity for low heads, this geometric feature makes the PKW an interesting solution for dam rehabilitation.

Prediction of the discharge capacity of piano key weirs using artificial neural networks
The discharge capacity of the piano key weir (PKW) is an important flow feature which ultimately decides the design of PKWs. In the present research work, the different architecture of artificial neural networks (ANNs) was employed to predict the ...
