Experimental study and modelling discharge coefficient of trapezoidal and rectangular piano key weirs

open access: yesApplied Water Science, 2020
Crest length is an important parameter in influencing the discharge handling capacity of a weir. Nonlinear weirs with longer crests are cost effective alternatives for those existing dam structures which are more susceptible to failure due to loss of ...

Experimental Study of Flow Hydraulic in Piano Key Weirs at Different Parapet Wall [PDF]

open access: yesعلوم و مهندسی آبیاری, 2016
Piano key weirs are a new type of Weirs that are designed to improve dams discharge capacity. Generally in increasing the upstream head water decreases the discharge capacity this tyre of weir.

Effects of weir geometry on scour development in the downstream of Piano Key Weirs [PDF]

open access: yesWater Supply, 2020
Abstract Scouring in the downstream of all weirs, including Piano Key Weirs (PKWs), can have major safety implications. Since the research on downstream scouring of PKWs is very limited, and the weir geometry is also known to have an impact on downstream scouring, this study investigated scouring in the downstream of PKWs with ...

Comparison of energy dissipation in downstream of stepped and baffled spillways of piano key weirs / Comparación de la disipación de energía en aguas abajo de aliviaderos escalonados y desconcertados de vertederos de tecla de piano

open access: yesTecnología y ciencias del agua, 2020
Heavy seasonal rains over a dam reservoir can lead to huge floods and consequent failure of the dam structure. One way of controlling the adverse effects of heavy rains is to use weirs with larger dimensions such as piano key weirs (PKWs).

Monitoring Hydrological Processes for Land and Water Resources Management in a Mediterranean Ecosystem: The Alento River Catchment Observatory

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, Volume 17, Issue 1, Page 1-12, 2018., 2018
Core Ideas Advanced sensor networks gather dense information on hydro‐meteorological variables. The Alento CZO helps assess the impact of climate and land‐use change on ecosystem services. Our research supports effective supply‐side and demand‐side adaptation strategies.

Parapet Wall Effect on Piano Key Weir Efficiency

open access: yesJournal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, 2013
AbstractThe piano key weir is a cost-effective solution for rehabilitation as well as for new dam projects with a high level of constraints (e.g., limited space, high specific flood discharge, smal...

Evidence of Population Fragmentation of the Western European Hedgehog Erinaceus europaeus in Urban Landscapes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
The Western European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) is a declining mammal increasingly associated with urban landscapes. This study uses 1413 SNP markers to investigate the species' genetic structure and connectivity in Greater London, UK, and surrounding areas.

Method for the preliminary design of Piano Key Weirs [PDF]

open access: yesLa Houille Blanche, 2012
The Piano Key Weir (PKW) is a particular geometry of weir associating to a labyrinth shape the use of overhangs to reduce the basis length. The PKW could thus be directly placed on a dam crest. Together with its important discharge capacity for low heads, this geometric feature makes the PKW an interesting solution for dam rehabilitation.

Prediction of the discharge capacity of piano key weirs using artificial neural networks

open access: yesJournal of Hydroinformatics
The discharge capacity of the piano key weir (PKW) is an important flow feature which ultimately decides the design of PKWs. In the present research work, the different architecture of artificial neural networks (ANNs) was employed to predict the ...
