Impacts of Atmospheric and Soil Droughts on Carbon and Water Fluxes in Northern European Coniferous Forests: Evidence From Eddy‐Covariance Data

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 8, August 2026.
Atmospheric and soil droughts were assessed using the SAMI and SSMI indices at northern European coniferous forest eddy‐covariance (EC) sites, and ecosystem responses were evaluated from EC flux data. The results show that soil droughts have been rare, while air moisture limitations on carbon and water fluxes occur more frequently. Atmospheric droughts

Long‐Term Biodiversity–Stability Relationship in Temperate Mountain Forests

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Theories on ecological stability lack the long‐term observational data necessary to comprehend the dynamics of durable and complex ecosystems like forests; consequently, the influence of biodiversity on ecosystem stability remains predominantly unexplained.

Tree growth response and adaptation to climate change and climate extremes: From canopy to stem

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, Volume 68, Issue 8, Page 2388-2415, August 2026.
This review synthesizes the responses and adaptations of tree growth, including canopy phenology, intra‐annual wood formation dynamics, and annual stem growth, to climate change and climate extremes. It highlights key knowledge gaps for future research to support sustainable forest management and enhance forest carbon storage under ongoing climate ...

Putatively Adaptive and Genome‐Wide Genetic Variation Often Rank Populations as Similarly Distinctive

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 15, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Identifying which populations within species to prioritize to maintain genetic diversity is challenging. Due to its direct connection to current patterns of adaptation and presumed connection to adaptive capacity, some researchers advocate prioritizing adaptive variation.

Influence of vapour pressure deficit and CO2 on the thermal sensitivity of stomatal function in tropical trees

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 3, Page 1075-1087, August 2026.
Examining the potential thermal sensitivity of the model parameter g1 when accounting for the additive nature of underlying components including CO2 compensation point (Г*) and the marginal water cost of plant carbon gain (λ), when assuming λ is dependent upon changes in the viscosity (inverse of fluidity) of water (η, Pa·s) and the solubility of CO2 ...
