Incompatibility between Picea pungens Engelm. and Picea engelmannii Parry
Forest Science, 1973Abstract Ovule development was studied in reciprocal crosses between Picea pungens Engelm. (blue spruce) and P. engelmannii Parry (Engelmann spruce). Reproductive failure was found to occur at several stages through the proembryo stage.

Calling site and calling posture. Inhabited the canopy, on trunks and primary stems. Vertical movements of the abdomen coincided with amplitude modulations. Calling song.

Karyological analysis of 16 spruce species and interspecific hybrid have been carried out. Diploid complements of these species include 24 chromosomes (2n=24). In karyotypes of 11 species supernumerous (B-) chromosomes occur: P. schrenkiana, P. jezoensis, P. pungens, P. x fennica ?? P. breweriana ??? 2n=24+1B, P. koyamae and P. engelmannii ???

The results of the ten-year study of the generative development of the 15 genus Picea Dietr. species under introduction in the Ukrainian south-east are presented. Analysis of the plants entering into the reproductive phase has been performed depending on the age of culmination of the current height increment.
