We present here the results of spruce (Picea schrenkiana Fish. et May.) tree-ring research in the Tien Shan Mountains, Kirgiz Republic. We explore the connection between climatic parameters and spruce ring width and maximum density at the upper and lower

Transport of airborne Picea schrenkiana pollen on the northern slope of Tianshan Mountains (Xinjiang, China) and its implication for paleoenvironmental reconstruction. [PDF]
The understanding of airborne pollen transportation is crucial for the reconstruction of the paleoenvironment. Under favorable conditions, a considerable amount of long-distance-transported pollen can be deposited far from its place of origin. In extreme

A 256‐year‐long precipitation reconstruction for northern Kyrgyzstan based on tree‐ring width
A total of 85 tree cores from 45 Schrenk spruces were used to establish a 256‐year June–May precipitation for northern Kyrgyzstan. The precipitation reconstruction not only matches some flood and drought events noted in the historical documents but also captures a dry decade occurred in 1910s in central Asia.

Hydroxyacetophenone defenses in white spruce against spruce budworm
Abstract We review a recently discovered white spruce (Picea glauca) chemical defense against spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana) involving hydroxyacetophenones. These defense metabolites detected in the foliage accumulate variably as the aglycons, piceol and pungenol, or the corresponding glucosides, picein and pungenin.

Picea schrenkiana tree ring blue intensity reveal recent glacier mass loss in High Mountain Asia is unprecedented within the last four centuries [PDF]
Studies on long-term fluctuations in glacier volume and mass are crucial for understanding past climate change. In this paper, we utilized Picea schrenkiana to develop a 525-year chronology of latewood blue intensity (LWBI) in the Tianshan Mountains ...

Factors Limiting Radial Growth of Conifers on Their Semiarid Borders across Kazakhstan
The forests of Central Asia are biodiversity hotspots at risk from rapid climate change, but they are understudied in terms of the climate–growth relationships of trees. This classical dendroclimatic case study was performed for six conifer forest stands
