Picker Routing in AGV-Assisted Order Picking Systems

INFORMS Journal on Computing, 2022
To reduce unproductive picker walking in traditional picker-to-parts warehousing systems, automated guided vehicles (AGVs) are used to support human order pickers. In an AGV-assisted order-picking system, each human order picker is accompanied by an AGV during the order-picking process.

The Intractability of the Picker Routing Problem.

CoRR, 2023
The Picker Routing Problem (PRP), which consists in finding a minimum-length tour between a set of storage locations in a warehouse, is one of the most important problems in the warehousing logistics literature. Despite its popularity, the tractability of the PRP in conventional multi-block warehouses remains an open question.

Optimally solving the joint order batching and picker routing problem [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Operational Research, 2017
In this work we investigate the problem of order batching and picker routing in storage areas. These are labour and capital intensive problems, often responsible for a substantial share of warehouse operating costs. In particular, we consider the case of online grocery shopping in which orders may be composed of dozens of items.
