A peak power of one terawatt has been obtained in XeCl with a pulse width of 310fs. Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) was investigated extensively by changing the gain of wide aperture discharge amplifiers. As a result, the ASE content was suppressed to less than 3% in energy by using an appropriate spatial filter before the final amplifier along ...

Dynamics of picosecond laser ablation for surgical treatment of colorectal cancer
Endoluminal surgery for the treatment of colorectal neoplasia is typically carried out using electrocautery tools which imply limited precision and the risk of harm through collateral thermal damage to the adjacent healthy tissue.

Multi-wavelength, all-solid-state, continuous wave mode locked picosecond Raman laser [PDF]
We demonstrate the operation of a cascaded continuous wave (CW) mode-locked Raman oscillator. The output pulses were compressed from 28 ps at 532 nm down to 6.5 ps at 559 nm (first Stokes) and 5.5 ps at 589 nm (second Stokes).

Investigation of thermodynamic properties in picosecond laser-produced plasmas on silicon
The validity of local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) in plasma is a long-term concern for laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy applications. In this paper, the spatial and temporal dependence of LTE deviation in picosecond laser-induced plasmas has been
