Optically excited nanoscale ultrasonic transducers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In order to work at higher ultrasonic frequencies, for instance, to increase the resolution, it is necessary to fabricate smaller and higher frequency transducers.

Stretchable Curvature Sensors for Motion Capture with Bending‐Stretching Coupling Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stretchable curvature sensors based on a wavy symmetric stacked‐layer structure (WSSLS) enable decoupled bending‐stretching detection with high linearity, repeatability, and durability. Integrated into smart gloves, the sensors achieved precise motion capture and human‐robot interaction, with slip‐simulation tests demonstrating a remarkable 93.6 ...

Development of a Fiber Laser with Independently Adjustable Properties for Optical Resolution Photoacoustic Microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Photoacoustic imaging is based on the detection of generated acoustic waves through thermal expansion of tissue illuminated by short laser pulses. Fiber lasers as an excitation source for photoacoustic imaging have recently been preferred for their high ...

Interfacial Reaction Boosts Thermal Conductance of Room‐Temperature Integrated Semiconductor Interfaces Stable up to 1100 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials
Overheating has emerged as a primary challenge constraining the reliability and performance of next‐generation high‐performance (ultra)wide bandgap (WBG or UWBG) electronics.

Demonstration of quantum synchronization based on second-order quantum coherence of entangled photons

open access: yes, 2016
Based on the second-order quantum interference between frequency entangled photons that are generated by parametric down conversion, a quantum strategic algorithm for synchronizing two spatially separated clocks has been recently presented.

Optimization of a perfect absorber multilayer structure by genetic algorithms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: An increasing interest has been recently grown in the development of nearly perfect absorber materials for solar energy collectors and more in general for all the thermophotovoltaic applications.

Scalable, Microwave‐Enabled Synthesis of Ternary WxTi1‐xO2 and Heterostructured TiO2‐WO3‐x Colloidal Nanocrystals: Carrier Dynamics and Photocatalytic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Two microwave‐assisted synthetic methods, specifically a one‐pot and a seeded‐growth approach, are developed within a hydroalcoholic solution for the growth of single‐phase ternary WxTi1‐xO2 and heterostructured TiO2‐WO3‐x colloidal nanocrystals. Both types of nanocrystals show significant photocatalytic activity for 4‐methoxybenzyl alcohol oxidation ...

A different way of performing picosecond ultrasonic measurements in thin transparent films based on laser-wavelength effects

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2005
We present a way of using picosecond ultrasonics to simultaneously get the thickness and elastic properties of thin dielectric layers. This is based on the use of a blue probe which is shown to improve the detection of acousto-optic oscillations in the dielectric from which the sound velocity can be measured from the refractive index.

Multi‐Dimensional Acoustic Cascaded Holographic Encryption with Instantaneous Visual Decryption via Particle Manipulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Acoustic holograms act as key tools for information encryption, yet current schemes limit encryption dimensionality/security and require time‐consuming decryption. A compact device integrates multi‐dimensional cascaded acoustic holography with particle manipulation, employs extra secret keys, enables rapid decryption, and is validated via 1D/2D/3D ...

Defect Dynamics and Solution‐Processed Interconnects in Perovskite‐Organic Tandem Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we identify the underlying cause of efficiency losses in WBG perovskites, which is ascribed to the presence of mobile defects distributed at surface regions. We further employ effective passivation agent with functional chemical groups to facilitate the healing of the mobile defects, thereby enhancing the VOC to 1.35 V and champion ...
