Generation and remote detection of THz sound using semiconductor superlattices

open access: yes, 2007
The authors introduce a novel approach to study the propagation of high frequency acoustic phonons in which the generation and detection involves two spatially separated superlattices $\sim 1 {\rm \mu m}$ apart.

Resonant driving of magnetization precession in a ferromagnetic layer by coherent monochromatic phonons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We realize resonant driving of the magnetization precession by monochromatic phonons in a thin ferromagnetic layer embedded into a phononic Fabry-Pérot resonator.

Non‐Equilibrium Synthesis Methods to Create Metastable and High‐Entropy Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Stabilizing multiple elements within a single phase enables the creation of advanced materials with exceptional properties arising from their complex composition. However, under equilibrium conditions, the Hume–Rothery rules impose strict limitations on solid‐state miscibility, restricting combinations of elements with mismatched crystal ...

Picosecond control of quantum dot laser emission by coherent phonons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A picosecond acoustic pulse can be used to control the lasing emission from semiconductor nanostructures by shifting their electronic transitions. When the active medium, here an ensemble of (In,Ga)As quantum dots, is shifted into or out of resonance ...

Operando Monitoring Interfacial pH Gradients and Ion Kinetics in Proton‐Coupled Electron Transfer Reactions through Dual‐Loop Electrochemical Methodology

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
We present a dual‐loop methodology for real‐time mapping of interfacial pH that distinguishes electric field effects from changes in proton activity. This universal tool reveals significant pH gradients and identifies ion mobility and buffer capacity as key regulators, providing crucial insights for optimizing electrocatalyst performance in energy ...

On Boussinesq-type models for long longitudinal waves in elastic rods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this paper we revisit the derivations of model equations describing long nonlinear longitudinal bulk strain waves in elastic rods within the scope of the Murnaghan model in order to derive a Boussinesq-type model, and extend these derivations to ...

Nonresonant Surface‐Enhanced Hyper Raman Scattering of Aromatic Amino Acids on Gold Nanoparticles

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
The surface‐enhanced hyper Raman spectra of the three aromatic amino acids phenylalanine, tryptophan, and tyrosine, obtained with nonresonant excitation at a wavelength of 1064 nm, are reported. The data are discussed in the context of the interaction of the molecules with two gold nanoparticle plasmonic substrates, as well as intermolecular ...

Quantum‐Grade Nanodiamonds from a Single‐Step, Industrial‐Scale Pressure and Temperature Process

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 12, 9 February 2026.
Novel method for creation of nitrogen‐vacancy centers in 50‐nm nanodiamonds based on high‐temperature plastic deformation is demonstrated. Compared to the electron irradiation approach, it yields nitrogen‐vacancy centers with significantly improved charge stability, T1 relaxation time, and optical Rabi contrast.

Mitigating Singlet Exciton Back‐Transfer using 2D Spacer Layers for Perovskite‐Sensitised Upconversion

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 14, Issue 6, 9 February 2026.
The efficiency of bulk perovskite‐sensitised upconversion is hindered by parasitic singlet back‐transfer. A 2D perovskite spacer layer is introduced to weaken this loss pathway by increasing the separation between the sensitiser and the emitter. The spacer layer enhances the upconversion efficiency at lower excitation powers and improves the stability ...
