Phylogenomic analysis of Picramnia, Alvaradoa, and Leitneria supports the independent Picramniales
Journal of Systematics and Evolution, 2017AbstractPicramniales is a recently established monotypic order that has not yet acquired a stable position on the phylogenetic tree of flowering plants. While Picramnia and Alvaradoa were transferred from Simaroubaceae (Sapindales) into Picramniaceae (Picramniales), Leitneria was transferred from the “hamamelids” into Simaroubaceae.

The structures of the secondary metabolites, including fatty acids, of the genera Picramnia and Alvaradoa (Picramniaceae) are surveyed. Neither the fatty acid profiles nor the structures of the anthraquinones and sugar linked anthracenone derivatives characteristic of both genera indicate close relationships between the Picramniaceae and any other ...

A new species ofPicramnia (Picramniaceae) is described, illustrated, and compared to related Amazonian species. The new species,Picramnia coccinea, is known only from three localities in three adjacent municipalities near Ilheus, Bahia, and constitutes another example of endemism in the southern Bahian flora.
