The Pill, Chlamydia and PID

Family Planning Perspectives, 1985
In their zeal for simplicity the media frequently misinterpret comples scientific findings and thereby misinform the public. This occurred when the general press reporting on a medical journal article focused on a link between the oral contraceptive pill and infertility.

On PID Self-Tuners

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1982
Abstract The appearance in the market of the first PID self-tuning (PID/ST) controller (see Cont. Eng. Oct. 1981) reflects the necessity of the industry to satisfy increasingly stringent control objectives which can only be attained with adaptive algorithms. The newer trends of the relatively mature adaptive control theory i.e.

WS/PIDS: Standard Interoperable PIDS in Web Services Environments

IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, 2008
An electronic health record depends on the consistent handling of people's identities within and outside healthcare organizations. Currently, the Person Identification Service (PIDS), a CORBA specification, is the only well-researched standard that meets these needs.

PID or Not PID? That Is the Question.

Adolescent medicine (Philadelphia, Pa.)
A 14-year-old female was seen for acute abdominal, back, and flank pain, accompanied with dysuria, increased frequency of urination, nausea, and decreased appetite. After an initial diagnosis of pyelonephritis, a presumptive diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) was made. The cervical culture was positive for Chlamydia trachomatis and a pelvic

On a Modification of the PID Controller

Dynamics and Control, 1997
The paper considers the controlled system \[ x^{(n)}+ a_nx^{(n-1)}+ \cdots + a_2x' +a_1x =u(t) \] and the finite-memory controller \[ u= -c_1 \bigl(x(t) -x_d(t)\bigr)-c_2 \bigl(x'(t) -x_d'(t) \bigr)- c_3\int^t_{t- \sigma} \bigl(x (\tau)- x_d(\tau) \bigr)d \tau \] \(x_d(t)\) being the reference signal. This controller is shown to have several advantages

Development and Analysis of a PID Controller and a Fuzzy PID

2019
This document presents the development of a Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) and a Fuzzy-PID, for the control of the level of the MPS PA plant, which is constituted by industrial sensors and actuators. The mathematical model and the parameters of the system were obtained using the software the MATLAB environment using a STM32F4 card.

The past of pid controllers

Annual Reviews in Control, 2000
Abstract The history of pneumatic PID controllers covering the invention of the flapper-nozzle amplifier, the addition of negative feed back to the amplifier and the incorporation of rest (integral) and pre-act (derivative) actions is described. The transition of the controller from a special purpose unit to a robust, reliable, widely used unit; the ...

Conservative Management of PID

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2000
Abstract: The goals in the management of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) are not only treatment of the infection and prevention of immediate complications, but also prevention of its long‐term consequences. There are criteria for hospitalization, but patients who do not meet them can be safely treated as outpatients.
