Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

An analysis of fractional piecewise derivative models of dengue transmission using deep neural network

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University for Science
This manuscript investigates a fractional piecewise dengue transmission model using singular and non-singular kernels. The existence results and uniqueness of the solution are established by using the approach of fixed point and in the framework of ...

Approximation by Piecewise Exponentials [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1991
The lower and upper bounds for families of spaces of piecewise exponentials are established. The authors found exact \(L_ p\)- approximation order \((1\leq p\leq \infty)\) for a family \(\{S_ h\}_{h>0}\) of function spaces when each \(S_ h\) is generated by an exponential box spline and its multi-integer translates.

CLinNET: An Interpretable and Uncertainty‐Aware Deep Learning Framework for Multi‐Modal Clinical Genomics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Identifying disease‐causing genes in neurocognitive disorders remains challenging due to variants of uncertain significance. CLinNET employs dual‐branch neural networks integrating Reactome pathways and Gene Ontology terms to provide pathway‐level interpretability of genomic alterations.

Exploration of the parameter space of piecewise omnigenous stellarator magnetic fields

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Piecewise omnigenous fields are stellarator magnetic fields that are optimized with respect to radial neoclassical transport thanks to a second adiabatic invariant that is piecewisely constant on the flux-surface.

Discontinuous differential equation for modelling the Antarctic Circumpolar Current

open access: yesCommunications in Analysis and Mechanics
In this paper, we were concerned with the existence of the solution related to the discontinuous differential equation, which corresponded to the stratification phenomenon in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC). By considering the piecewise vorticity

Adjusting for overdispersion in piecewise exponential regression models to estimate excess mortality rate in population-based research

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2016
Background In population-based cancer research, piecewise exponential regression models are used to derive adjusted estimates of excess mortality due to cancer using the Poisson generalized linear modelling framework.

A piecewise constitutive model for collagen fiber tissues

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, 2022
Inspired by Meyers et al. (Science, 2013), a piecewise model is established so as to individually predict both the heel region and the linear region of stress–strain curve.

Limit cycles of planar piecewise linear Hamiltonian differential systems with two or three zones

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2022
In this paper, we study the existence of limit cycles in continuous and discontinuous planar piecewise linear Hamiltonian differential system with two or three zones separated by straight lines and such that the linear systems that define the piecewise ...

Piecewise smooth phase reconstruction [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 1999
A well-founded and computationally fast method is presented for filtering and interpolating noisy and discontinuous wrapped phase fields that preserves both the 2pi discontinuities that come from the wrapping effect and the true discontinuities that may be present. It also permits the incorporation of an associated quality map, if it is available, in a
